President Muhammed Buhari, In November, 2015, launched the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Anchor Borrower Programme in Kebbi state, in which the sum of N17 billion was approved to support the farmers in the state.
The chairman of Kebbi State chapter of Rice Farmer Association of Nigeria, RIFAN, Muhammed Sahabi Augie, disclosed this while speaking with DailyTrust.com
He says out of the 70,000 farmers that benefitted from the loans in 2015, only about 200 of them repaid the laons they took.
Out of 70,000 farmers only 200 paid back loans... this is serious Gbese!
ReplyDeleteA whole Federal Goverment cannot give farmers grant
ReplyDeleteEven in UK, when something is called loan, it must be repaid even if you are on benefits.
DeleteThat was the plan from the outset. THE CBN had no business granting them direct loans
ReplyDeleteIt spins both ways, once you give someone a loan, they could either misuse it, or use it wisely. Now, using it wisely doesn't still mean it would yield back the expected returns. If a farmer takes a loan for his crops and once day, a herd of cattle goes there to feed on his entire farm, what does he do? Its not just about giving loans, how enabling is the environment? Anyway, I don't know why they couldn't pay back. I wish them and the government all the best.
ReplyDeleteI laugh in swahiSw, you see eeh, this country is a joke walaii, this thing was something that was supposed to go round to all farmers nationwNat, I remember that one old woman came to the bank then to open an account, she said farmers were promised a loan, it never came, they shared it to the northerners. Naija don Taya me like thut
ReplyDeleteThose farmer, did they know it was just a loan? Or did the government market it as "we're giving you money, vote APC?"
