ReplyDeleteAnenebe e je olu, just mention the name of the film, I will buy it straight up.
ReplyDeleteThere could be lots of factors:
ReplyDelete1) There are times and seasons. You can't expect to be in demand at the same rate for the roles you've played over the last decade or so. It doesn't even make sense.
2) You got married. It's the second marriage. Nobody wants it to be said that they're the ones trying to scatter your home with movie role this time. Remember some of the kinds of roles you used to do before your current marriage because that was prevalent in Nollywood? Na your set make off-ing cloth enter mainstream. That time Eucharia Anunobi tried it (Glamour Girls), we hear say church call am for meeting. And we are still witnessing the fallout from whatever happened or didn't happen with Cossy Ojiakor and that dog that may or may not have been there. Plus body double isn't a Nollywood thing (yet).
3) Whom did "loud it" to before now that you're fluent in Igbo? If nobody knows something about you, they have no reason to remember or look in your direction when certain opportunities arise. The only reason the butler remembered Joseph when Pharaoh had a dream, was cos the butler had experienced Joseph's accurate dream interpretation before.
4) This is going to sound harsh but you're a MUCH BETTER stage actress than you are a screen actress. I'm not saying you're terrible at acting altogether; something just gets lost in translation when you're in front of a camera. You've worked with different screen directors with varying levels of experience, so it's not them. Stage and screen acting are nowhere near the same. What is "standard" on stage will usually be "too much" onscreen. Very few actresses anywhere in the world can criss-cross seamlessly from stage to small screen and big screen, and bring the same level of believability and ooomph to each medium. Joke Silva, Sola Sobowale, Lala Akindoju, Ireti Doyle and Nse Ikpe-Etim are the only ones that come to mind (I've seen) who can perform such in Nollywood. Tbf, Joke Silva is a whole standard by herself. But my point is that shoving a camera in the face of a stage actress and shouting, "Action" doesn't automatically transform them into a screen actress.
Which Sola Sobowale, In as much as I like her but she acts same in all her role, screams too much and acts razz even when she is supposed to be posh, Maybe she is better suited to stage more than the screen as you said.
DeleteMaybe not Sola. She shouts much
DeleteThe deliberate rolling to tongue and mouth for Joke is off putting
DeleteHer husband however seamlessly
I do enjoy her movies
ReplyDeleteHope this is a good one too
If your not patience ozokwo you can never be her
