Court Sentences Orji Kalu To 12 Years In Jail Over N7.65bn Fraud Allegations

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday sentenced a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of 39 counts of N7.2 billion fraud and money laundering.

Kalu was charged alongside Jones Udeogo, the state Commissioner for Finance during his tenure as the governor.
Kalu’s company, Slok Nig. Ltd., was also a defendant in the suit.

While Kalu and his company were convicted on all the 39 counts of the fraud charge, Udeogo was found guilty of 34 counts.

Ruling, Justice Mohammed Idris sentenced Orji Kalu to 12 years in prison for N7.65 billion fraud.

The court also ordered that the Slok Nig. Ltd. Should be wound up and its assets forfeited to the Federal Government

    1. In politics, charity begins at home.

Orji Kalu failed woefully when he mortgaged Abia state interests on a frivolous national politics. Rochas turn is currently hibernating. Amaechi and others time will come.

Orji Kalu was jailed not only for being corrupt because hardly you will see a Nigerian politician that is not highly corrupt. I am beginning to see 2023 presidential interests as a converging circle that instigated his woes. Orji Kalu was not smart enough by swimming in a crocodile infested water without a shield.

Tinubu was able to corner his zone before going national. But then, he is equally swimming in a crocodile infested water. Does he have enough shield?

    2. If you were from Abia, you won’t make such foolish comment. He robbed us blind along with his mother. He stole from Igbo people so yes he should go to jail.

    2. I can't believe some comments I am reading here. So some bvs see this has injustice against Kanu because he is an Igbo man, some are even saying it is because he didn't support Jonathan so Buhari is his karma and we all want a great nation but we tribalize every issue hummmm. His case has been on for a long time and this shows this administration is serious about the corruption fighting. This is a judgment that can never be deliver in a PDP government especially not the government of Jonathan because his government was about stealing.

  7. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm hope this is not just for the headline. And hope he hasn't been flown out of the country in disguise of being in prison, anything is possible in this corrupt country.
If really he's in prison he surely deserved it, because he finished Abia state.

    1. I praised the court led by Justice Muhammad Idris for doing a good job. We are satisfied that justice was served. It is clear that the court took the time to think about what was presented to them before and earlier this year. It was a lot of information and the issues of corruption were national issues, as far as we as Nigerians are concerned. The corruption allegations were very, very serious, so we are satisfied that justice was served.

  8. This crook looted Abia state's resources and handed over to another incompetent and corrupt fellow TA Oji who continued where he stopped. Today the curri Governor is struggling because previous governors stole the state dry.

The other Thief called TA Oji will surely have his day in court.
The fool thought decamping to APC would save him.

  24. His assets should be forfeited to Abia State not Federal Government.
It's the his state and people he stole from. They should use the proceeds from sale of his forfeited assets to construct some roads in Aba and other parts of Abia.
