The essence of the fast (fruit fast in this case) is for self discipline, worship God, learn from him etc.
Godliness is profitable in all things 1 Timothy 4:6-8...
In fruit fasts, you eat (raw) fruits (assorted according to season/availability) and vegetables (carrots, cabbage/lettuce, nuts like almond,) and DRINK PLENTY OF WATER during your regular meals or when you get hungry. NO CHOICE FOODS.
As you progress, you will find out that you are more and more in love with God's Word and less hungry about what to eat.
It is tough initially but very rewarding eventually. Since it is raw fruits/vegetables, please wash very well will salty water just for hygiene.
You can also celebrate the communion with grapevine and unleavened bread.
Let's visit the Scripture and see a typical example.
Daniel 1:11Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12“Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” 14So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

17To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.
