The Bible warns us in Hebrews 12:15, “Look diligently lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble us, and thereby many be defiled.”
Like the two sons of Jacob who wiped out a whole tribe because they were offended (Genesis 34:25-31), not letting go of offenses leads to bitterness, defilement, and great damage with time.
Here are 3 ways of dealing with bitterness and offenses:
1.Learn to overlook faults.
As humans, we are bound to offend others; but when we understand this and overlook the faults of others, we forestall bitterness and offenses. In Proverbs 19:11 the Bible says, “Discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.” Overlooking faults is one sure way of letting go.
2. Learn to confront issues
The Bible says in Mathew 18:15, “Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.” This principle is so important in dealing with offenses. Whenever you are offended you need to wisely confront the issue instead of brooding over it .
3. Manage your expectations.
Sometimes our expectations of others are pegged too high which leads to offenses and disappointments. In proverb 13:12 we are told "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick but when the desire cometh it is the tree of life.
Heavenly father take out the root of bitterness from our hearts and help us to deal with offenses in the mighty name of Jesus... Amen.

What a way to make cool cash
Apparently, I'd been asleep for almost two hours. So deep a slumber, I didn't know when the vehicle broke down. More curses were heaped on the driver when he said the fault was not something that could be fixed that night and by an amateur (him). I was scared because the area was bush, there was no town in sight. What if we were robbed, kidnapped or killed? He pacified us when he said that another bus was on its way from Enugu to take us. That allayed my fears.
ReplyDeleteTwenty minutes later, we continued our journey in the new bus. It was a smooth trip this time. When we got to Okigwe, it was almost 11pm. I asked my seat neighbor if I could use her phone. I wanted to call Ikenna.
"I don't have airtime" she said, "it got finished as I was speaking with my son".
Those days, one could not borrow call credit like we do today. It was either you bought it, or you bought it.
We got to Owerri at 12:55pm. Some passengers who lived in town alighted on the way but I and a few other passengers got to the garage with the driver. Ikenna lived at Umuchima, far from the town, it was very late to go there. Even if I wanted to, there were no taxis or bikes in sight. I decided to sleep at the park and continue in the morning.
The sharp-toothed mosquitoes at the motor park reminded me what a fool I was for not not listening to Chidimma, my best friend; or for rejecting Uzoho's offer. Because at the end of the day, I still didn't make it to the party.
In the morning, I went to a corner with my bag, brushed my teeth, washed my face and changed my blouse. I applied a light make-up and brushed my hair. I didn't want to look like what I'd been through. I wanted to look good for Ikenna. I longed to see him. His warm embrace and gentle caresses will be a soothing relief. I needed a body massage badly, to fall asleep in his arms.
It was a beautiful morning in Umuchima when I arrived at 7am. I'd never been to his lodge but knew the name. I asked for directions and it was pointed to me.
I walked in. There were about ten self contained apartments in the lodge. Surely, there had been a party there because I saw the empty bottles, cans and foil papers. There was also a barbecue.
I saw two beautiful girls, one fair one dark, sitting outside one of the rooms.
"Hi good morning" I greeted.
"Hello". They replied.
"I'm here to see Ikenna. Please which is his room?" I asked.
"And who are you?" The fair one asked.
"My name is Ifeyinwa, I'm his girlfriend" I answered confidently.
"Ohhh...ok. You're welcome. Well Erm, that's his room". She pointed at the door at the far end. They had a strange look on their faces, like I shouldn't be there. I thought he said everyone was expecting me? The girls didn't look expectant.
I knocked on the door.
"Yes?" a male voice answered sleepily.
Ikenna! I smiled. I didn't talk, wanted him to be surprised when he saw me. But it didn't look like he was coming to get the door, he may have gone back to sleep. I knocked again after a few seconds. I heard a long hiss, Ikenna murmured. Was he talking to someone? The long hiss again. Murmurs. Shuffling. The door was opened and there stood Ikenna in his boxers. He looked roguishly handsome.
"Hello darling" I said.
"Ifeyinwa!" he gasped, "why didn't you call me?" he hastily closed the door behind him. "I didn't know you would still come. You should have called". He looked terrified.
"Does it matter? I'm here now. I wanted to surprise you".
His behavior baffled me. What was going on and why was he fidgeting? The least I expected was a hug. What was wrong? Or was he.. .
I quickly pushed him aside and opened the door. A girl sat up lazily from the bed, she was stark naked- her nipples pointed at me like Paris's arrows.

No job ... thank God!
No child ... thank God!
Let me share this, a true life story of my friend. In summary,
She was 38 years, had multiple fibroid, a very big tummy, unmarried and worried.
Doctors advised surgery because she experienced severe menstrual cramps. She agreed for a surgery but each time she saved for it, something will come up that'll gulp the money.
Guess what? It was God at work. This God... Awesome!
God sent her husband from an African country (he is a Nigerian) to her giving him a sign that his wife had fibroid and that was a sign to know she was the one plus other signs of course. They were married in just 6 months, I was at their wedding and I was awed at God.
He told my friend if she had removed the fibroid before he met her, he wouldn't have even spoken to her. She's going to have her surgery done but all I'm saying is God works in mysterious ways.
Yours might not happen this way but trust me, your testimony will definitely be unique just for you.
This phrase up there might sound clichΓ© but it is what it is.
