The Bergen County community made this known on Monday in an invite to sent to residents and neighbours.
The community sympathise with Sowore’s family whom had not seen their father and husband for over 87 days.
In a notice, the community said, “The Bergen County community is coming together to tie 87 Yele Ribbons to unite, support and pray for Sowore’s safe return home.
“The yellow ribbon has long been a symbol for absent and missing loved ones.
For each day until Sowore’s safe return home, an additional ribbon will be added. #FreeSoworeNow.”
The community described Sowore as a man known for his dedication to truth and his efforts towards a Nigeria that works for all citizens regardless of socio-economic background, religion or ethnicity.
Sowore was arrested by the DSS in Lagos on August 3, 2019 for calling on Nigerians to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations to express their displeasure at the poor state of governance in the country.
The government is charging Sowore for insulting President Muhammadu Buhari and planning to bring down his government – charges the pro-democracy campaigner vehemently denies and that had been described by legal practitioners across and beyond Nigeria as laughable and baseless.
The case has been fixed for November 6, 7 and 8 for accelerated trial by the court.
from sahara reporters...
Nigeria is our country.
ReplyDeleteHow can you place a 100million bail bond on a journalist? How much is he worth? When the masses revolted, it was reduced to 50million. Still very exorbitant if I must say.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the judiciary is turning into. Tomorrow is the supreme court hearing of the Presidential election and the last hope of a better Nigeria or a truncated Nigeria. Do you know up till now the puppet of a CJN hasn't disclose the seven judges to sit on the case? This is giving credence that the CJN wants to handpick judges that will do the biddings of the government in power. This is the first time in history that supreme court judges aren't disclosed less than 24hours to hearing. What sort of judiciary system do we have? They want to go against the normal procedures of seniority to pick junior judges. What is Mr President really afraid of if he truly won that election?
Nigerians knows the senior supreme court judges and anything short of them being among the panel is a clear indication and miscarriage of justice. The world is watching. History about to be made....
The ones abroad are wiser than we in Nigeria but I guess they have such liberty because no one will arrest them for standing for the truth
ReplyDeleteYes, try it here and see yourself in kirikiri.
DeleteThey should tie red ribbon if they like.

DeleteThis right here is the very reason intellectually capable people will not run for political posts.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, most of them sit and watch while the country continues to go down the drain as long as they have all the comfort they need, their families can travel in and out whenever, 24 hours power supply in their homes etc.
Suppression and injustice is killing the country as no one is ready to languish in jail and be away from their families for opposing a corrupt system.
