Our clergymen will always make us realise that 'God loves a cheerful giver', I guess the unsaid part would also means he hates a miserly giver.
I witnessed a particular incident where a woman who dropped twenty naira into the offering basin was called back to take her offering. According to the person handling the offerings, , he said it was an insult on God to give such meagre amount. My thoughts were "what if that was her widow's mite?" Should anyone even reject an offering on God's behalf?
When I asked a mature Christian if that action was okay, she stated clearly that she would rather not give at all than give such a little amount.
I was seriously taken aback. As a student, I used to give offerings as low as fifty naira and I can imagine how embarrassed and hurt I would have felt if I was told to take it back.
In my opinion I think people should be allowed to give unto God what they have and not be compelled to give more with grumbling. It is more about the willingness of the heart than the amount.

I had never given #20 while growing up. I remember starting with #50. Sometimes #100 or #200. Few times #500.

ReplyDeleteWhile growing up it was okay to give what you have or not give at all if you dont. It's not same now,when the offering basket is passed and you dont drop anything even your neighbor would look at you twice. There are people who beg their neighbor for offering, so they could be among the givers.

The blessing part does not depend on how bountiful the offering is. The blessing part depends on how cheerfully you give no matter the amount.

Maybe I'm judging with churches I've attended.
Churches should introduce the use of envelopes please.

There are sometimes I have been so broke that 100 naira set I no get to give offering,will I not then go to church because of that? Who no get today no go get tomorrow?

God loves a cheerful giver....and I would rather give what I have, thank not give at all. The widow's mite was acceptable unto God, because she gave all of what she had, which wasn't much. So calling someone to take back an offering, is wrong on all levels. Me no go gree collect am back, because I gave it to God not man.

i only give 1000 and nothing below any time i give offering because God has blessed me...when i had nothing i gave whatever i had. that pastor is not right in what he did and its not in our place to say it is demeaning to God. if u tell me that is your last card or best to give God then let only God who knows all things judge you

Deletepeople should be allow to give whatever they want to give, i give according to how God bless me and do not wish to explain the amount, reason why i give such amount to anyone. I only give to God and not to human being. In some churches people give offerigng and ask for change, i don't like that method. People even give fake money, some give dollars that you cannot exchange in the exchange market.

Zuckerberg, Buffet, Bill Gates are not handing out 10% to any pastors and they can buy you, your pastor and all of your unborn generations, yet you believe these greedy bastard pastors. Keep throwing your money away. You see that orphanage, buy food and supplies and send to them. You will be blessed more.
