Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative.....

Hmmmm.......................

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
RELOCATING TO LAGOS;LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES

Good day Stella, kudos for the wonderful job you’re doing. I’m glad to be part of this family.

I really need advice on how to live the next phase of my life.

My story is going to be a bit lengthy, please pardon me.

I’m a 29years old lady,a graduate of Economics Education.I finished service about a year ago.I had to take up a teaching job in another state after applying in other companies to no avail. The salary was barely enough to sustain me(20k) and the workload was too much.I was teaching 9 out of 11 periods everyday.I had to quit for my sanity.

Now my dilemma is..I will like to go to Lagos(heard there are so many opportunities there) to see if I can get a better job.

I would also like to learn a skill(fashion designing). My parents live in Warri but I don’t wish to live in Warri but I don’t like it where i presently reside,no friends and little or no job opportunities.

My fears are ........should I take the risk and go to Lagos?what are my chances of getting a job considering my age and no work experience,I would still learn the skill there too.

How will I survive without a job in Lagos? Or should I stay back in warri, learn the skill there at least I would be still be able to feed comfortably in my parents house.I’m not a business person but i could still try to do it.

I need suggestions of business with little capital.
I’m tired of being broke,I want to do better with my life,I want a career or a skill. What do I do with my life??

*Oh my dear!!!....You appear really lost!...don't you talk things over with your parents?
If there is someone you can stay with in Lagos, then please go cos you never know!.....If there is no one to stay with, please head back to Warri, stay with your parents and plan the next phase of your life my dear.
Manage whatever small Job you get and save the little you can.....

  2. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life e ?

28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

People like Chikito, Ronalda etc, should be able to give you a solid advice.

I wish you the best in your decision.

  4. I’ll suggest you learn a skill for now, will be of great benefit to you later on.
If you decide to go to Lagos now, where would you put up? With family or friend?
If you decide to stay with a friend, you’d have to contribute to feeding and other things in the house.
Besides, these days, people don’t like accommodating, times are really hard.
feeding an extra mouth won’t be easy.
    Please learn a skill first.

  5. If you have friends or family you can stay with, come down to Lagos and give it a try.
You can't know what's there for you if you don't try it out.

  6. Truth is that, staying with one parents really never helps most times compare to when one moves to a far away distance. Reason is that, knowing that no one will feed you, clothe you or even take care of your basic needs there, you will find an extra strength and motivation to survive by hustling.

Again, never make the mistake of traveling anywhere where there's no one to accommodate and shelter you. This is one mistake some people made that travelled out of the country. If you travel out without any hope or plan of someone accommodating you, you may end up in an uncompleted building or fall victim to rape. I will advice you learn the skill in Warri, if you eventually travel to Lagos, you will just start your work immediately.

Lastly, I won't fail to let you know as well that the grass is not always greener at the other end like people may think. Most people in that Lagos are even trying to jet out of the country as well. No where it's easy in the country at the moment.

  7. My dear poster, please go back to your family and learn a skill or better still, get another teaching job so as to enable you save something. Don't be in a hurry to move to Lagos with little or no place of accommodation for you. With the little savings you make while with parents, you can then decide to live them and start a life for yourself but with nothing on you,i won't advice such.

  8. I suggest you learn a skill but please you have to home atleast to have a shelter and save you costs while you continue applying. God will remember you soonest

  9. Use the next one year to learn a skill IN WARRI. One year will not make much difference. You should have saved some money certainly in one year. It's better you start doing home tutorials for people. Beg stella to post advert for you to WARRI Bvs. It will be better if you are STEM inclined or just focus on mathematics. After one year of learning a skill and saving from side hustles, then move to Lagos to practice your skill while you network and look for a better job. You can also start a PG program around WARRI. Some private schools in Lagos could even pay better with your education degree. If any careless money fall on you maybe masters. Who knows one of your course mates could be an influential politician that can give you a job slot. Be prayerful too.

  10. My dear pls stay in warri and learn the skill first. I left warri to lagos and it hasn’t been so rosy..without experience you don’t get the good paying jobs for a start..so pls stay in warri for a while and gather yourself before relocating..Trust me cost of living in lagos is not easy.Transportation alone for interviews can finish all the money you brought to lagos..

  11. dilemma of 80% graduates in Nigeria. in the last 1 month 5 of my friends have relocated to either Lagos or Abuja. what a country

  12. My advise stay back in your state but change the address on your resume to a Lagos address and continue apply to companies in Lagos. Staying alone in Lagos without any source of livelihood is no beans my dear.

  13. I dont know how people do it, but I do not like being a bother to others.
After NYSC at 25, I ddnt bother leaving home. I spent the next 1year job hunting and learning fashion designing in Enugu. Exactly a year after, I got a job that took me out of Enugu. I dnt have a problem with people who relocate but if you will relocate and just be in someones house, you may have to reconsider. Its not easy puting up with people in this economy if you are not contributing. They will make you feel like shit.

  14. before u come to lagos, ask better questions oh, where u will stay, who u re staying with. Trust me alot of them are managing oh.

  15. if you have a GOOD person in Lagos you can go and try your luck but if you don't have, go to warri.

  16. Sis if you have a place to stay for free in Lagos you can go try out there. If not better stay in warri, learn your skill, still pick up job you can do that is available. It is well

  17. God guides please pray He has His perfect will for you in this situation but my advice is go back and learn your skill in Warriors and while at it you may take up private tutoring so that you have control over your time. Work hard at your skill acquisition and with that skill you should be able to pay for your expenses if you really need to move to Lagos. But I don't know why you want to go to Lagos, Yoruba people say Lagos money stay in Lagos, life in Lagos is too expensive and such a wild and crazy place too. But you may find it okay if you are able to meet your needs legitimately. May God lead you aright.

  18. Poster, please don't become a burden to someone else in a new environment when you've your parents house to live in, I'll suggest you submit copies of your cv to schools during this holiday period because by September some will definitely hire new teachers ..Pray also while submitting for favour to follow you wherever you go, also be confident .
If you can save a little from the teaching job( you can also engage in home lessons for extra cash at least thrice a week),try to save some money and get a second hand sewing machine, then you start learning that skill if it's what interests you, so you'll already have a machine to practice with ... Don't think the grass is greener over there ,I wish you all the best dear 😘

  20. google good schools in Lagos and Abuja, get their email address and send in your applications to at least 20 schools in each location. Be ready for interviews, some even offer accommodation esp boarding schools. Relocate only when you get a good offer. Do this now, it's teacher's transfer window.

  21. From My personal experience,, I'll suggest You head back home first to acquire the skill..but never get too comfortable there..You leave immediately you get the required skill and enough fund you'll need to survive in Lagos.. Your parents will provide accommodation and feeding with Love and the encouragement you'll need so you'll focus fully on learning your skill..this would not the case in Lagos .Also don't forget to commit your cares and worries to God our Father for He cares for US. Good Luck

  22. Country hard o. Don't go to where you don't have a support system or gainful employment. But also don't live in fear because God allows you to dream for a reason

  23. One thing you must know about Lagos is the attendant high cost of living. Also, it’s not like the jobs are on the street just waiting to be picked up. This is not to discourage you, but to help you manage your expectations.
As a 29 yr old, you may not qualify for entry level jobs (these jobs don’t pay a lot initially, but provide a well defined career path which pays off well in the long run).
Do you have any connections? They may be able to fix you up in a decent job (private or public sector).
My sincere advice to you is to learn a skill very well in that Warri WHILE doing a teaching job. Don’t relocate to Lagos to begin learning the skill. When you learn the skill properly, you may then decide to relocate to Lagos as you will be able to get more exposure relevant to the skill, polish the skill you have learnt, and also charge higher prices. Also, you may be able to get a teaching job which you can do alongside your business.
One of our family friends did this pattern for years. She was a teacher and her husband was always in and out of jobs. She picked up cake making and fashion designing (on a smaller scale). That was how she trained her kids. Even when she left her teaching job for a bank job, she continued her business. So it’s doable.
Also, this one you are talking about work-load, I take it that you said that just because of the paltry pay, because building a good career or business takes a lot of work, which you must be ready for.
For businesses you can do, I suggest to go to prior posts on business ideas and pick one that resonates with your interest. Stella has done a number of such posts.
So long as your parents are not stressing you, please stay with them to save up as much as you can.

  24. Fear of the unknown is what is killing us, I was afraid of relocating from my comfort zone where things seems cheaper, with plenty friends and family members. But I made up my mind to try something different like starting life afresh in another state. The only difference between you and I is that I got a new job in the new state, I am so shocked the way I am copying here without friends and family members. Try applying for jobs in Lagos so that you can have something doing than going there and sitting at home.No matter how little try something.

Going to stay with your parents will not be a good idea.

  25. Put it before God,stay back and acquire a skill in warri, fashion designing is quite lucrative and fashion houses are always on the look out to employ,so you may learn how to sew,you can take up some professional certifications too,(cipm, pmp) so that way you are prepared for opportunities that would come your way because Lagos has so many opportunities. You can combine sewing and teaching and private coaching while you work your way to the top.Don't move to Lagos with the intentions of squatting or living with anyone for long. Be prepared to rent your own space.

  26. As a young lady u are even supposed to make more money as Teacher cos u have the chance to go for home lessons. My friend earns #20k in a school where she works but has 3 home lessons that pays #15k each though in Asaba. She could cope cos she's still single. U can relocate to your parents and apply in a school then source for home lessons to support you. You can even make more money if the family that will employ u have more than a kid they want u to take.
