ASIDE KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE BEFORE MARRIAGE THERE'S NEED FOR A WOMAN TO KNOW HER RHESUS FACTOR - RHESUS FACTOR INCOMPATIBILITY IS A LEADING CAUSE OF MISCARRIAGE! NOT ALWAYS "YOUR VILLAGE PEOPLE!"*
PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS:
Rhesus Factor is an antigen that exists on the surface of red blood cells in most people (about 85% of humans). It is also referred to as Rh Factor. People who have the Rh have “positive” (+) blood types, such as A+, O+ or B+
are said to be rhesus Factor positive, while those who have the Rh “negative” (-) blood types, such as A–, O– or AB– are said to be rhesus factor negative .
The “+” and “-” after the blood group is the Rhesus factor. Generally, we have A+, A–,B+, B–, AB+, AB–, O+ and O–. Rhesus factor is genetic in nature. It is inherited from the parents, emphatically the father.
*How does Rhesus Factor cause miscarriage?*
If a Rh– woman is impregnated by a man with Rh–, there wouldn’t be any problem. However, if a Rh– woman is impregnated by a man with Rh+,
there would be a problem if the baby inherits Rh+ from the father . We have here what is medically called Rhesus Factor Incompatibility. The baby
would obviously be Rh+. During child birth, once the baby’s Rh+ comes in contact with the woman Rh- during delivery, the antibodies are
immediately activated by the woman’s body’s immune system.
The activated antibodies would see the new Rh+as foreign body or a threat and consequently they would be at alert to attack and get rid of the foreign body. Unfortunately as such, after this particular child birth, the woman would keep
having miscarriages because the activated antibodies would see subsequent Rh+ pregnancies as foreign bodies and would keep fighting and taking them off.
Women with Rh activated antibodies are said to be Rh sensitized and once these antibodies are activated , they can never be deactivated until
the woman dies. Rh induced antibodies are activated in a Rh- woman by child birth, abortion, miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.
If a Rh– woman commits an abortion for a Rh+man and the antibodies are activated in her system, the woman might end up childless throughout her life except if she later marries another man with with the same Rh–. The
possibility of a Rh– woman finding a Rh– man is slim as about 85% of human beings are Rh+.
This is a warning to our young girls who commit abortions all in the name of boyfriend-girlfriend relationships.
If you’re a woman with Rh– and your fiance is Rh+, and you haven’t committed abortion for him and you don’t want to leave him, then, you need
to take note of the following:
In order to prevent the activation of the antibodies, doctors would give women in this category an injection called Rhogam during and after pregnancy to prevent spontaneous abortion due to Rhesus factor incompatibility.

again!
In many African cultures up till today, women who are so unfortunate to find themselves having serial spontaneous abortions due to Rhesus factor incompatibility are considered witches by some of their people. Some of the
women would accuse their in-laws of being behind their predicament.
So, if you’re a woman with Rh– , you need to be very careful. It might be difficult for you to get a husband with a Rh– because about 85% of
human beings are Rh+. So, in order not to find yourself in the aforementioned problem, put all that have been said at the back of your mind and go for genetic counselling. If you have a daughter or a sister with Rh–, counsel them on
Rhesus Factor Incompatibility and the dangers lying therein.

ReplyDeleteThis is a warning to our young girls who commit abortions all in the name of boyfriend-girlfriend relationships.
Deletewhat kind of daft warning is this? when an injection can take care of the issue. any doctor worth their weight in sand also checks for this so what are you on about. i'm not saying abortion is good but deliberate misinformation to manipulate people out of their options isn't the way forward either.
U need to b her best friend. Problem Nos one with them is abortion, if she doesn’t know and do a D and C without taking that injection, una don enter am o! Sex education with her shd start early. Now is d right time, gradually let her know about her being different from others and what it will cost her to have a risky lifestyle. Best of luck pray to God for guidance
DeleteZeuz
Amen dear, she is only 7yrs old now. God will keep us with her. I felt sad when I found out .I had to it in two different places just to be sure.
DeleteShe is blessed.
Don’t b my dear. God works in mysterious ways
DeleteGood one Stella. Thank you for the post. I did research on this a while back and i was so surprised by how negligent we are and we attribute some ridiculous factors as reason for miscarriage or other complications during child birth. We need to be informed!!
ReplyDeleteBlog ID stealer. Well done!
DeleteQuite educative
ReplyDeleteBut the doctors do give injection immediately after child birth so as to avoid miscarriage.my friend was given that injection and she never had miscarriage.
ReplyDeleteOver sabi, did you even bother to read the post? Your repetition is unnecessary. Go back and be better informed
DeleteWhat antenatal drug can one take to have a beautiful baby
ReplyDeleteI'm 0+
ReplyDeleteYou worry about genotype and you still have to deal with rhesus factor again.
ReplyDeleteGod aren't we suppose to be perfect since you made us in Your image?
Please what of if the woman is R+ and Hubby R-,i need answer please.
ReplyDeleteIt is only a concern with R- women not men
DeleteThanks for posting stella, my daughter is o- , obviously got it from the father cos o+. Doctor told me at birth which is good for me. I plan to tell her once she gets of age, not taking any chances. Information is power, not that the Rhogam sef is banned just lack of awareness.People needs to be aware. Thats why they talk about safe abortion so that all the necessary drugs will ve administered. Am pro choice before anyone comes for me.
ReplyDeleteWay to go 14/14. Early sex education and closesness to u
DeleteWoah! Very educative 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Stella,
ReplyDeleteThis post is very educative. I've never heard anything like until today.
Thanks Stella for this post. Very informative
ReplyDeleteWow!!!!! I am AB-
ReplyDeleteMy mum has been druming this into my ears since I was a teenager..I am o-ve, thanks to my father :)
ReplyDeleteThank God my baby refused to be aborted after taking some abortion pills to abort her cos I never knew my blood group was o-,decided to carry to full terms wen I could not abort it was during my anti- natal check up DAT I discovered I was o- and my baby daddy is o+.it was after birth of my baby DAT I was given d injection becos my baby is o+. Imagine if d abortion had gone through I would not have been able to have babies again.God I thank u 4 delivering me
ReplyDeleteGod really loves you. Your pregnancy was a blessing in disguise.May God provide you with all your needs so as to take good care of her.
DeleteThis rhesus issue needs more awareness. I was lucky to be told immediately I entered he ghee institution (the school nurse called me aside after seeing my test results) and told me the implication of this rhesus negative. I was the one that even educated my parents about it and also my sisters. Early education on this would have helped a lot of young people.
ReplyDeleteThis is good...kudos Stella.
ReplyDeleteEven though I knew about this long before I got married...though I and hubby are + so no qualms there but is quite appalling at the level of people's unawareness about this.
Biko, let's all make it a habit to talk to those around us about this. Be it your sisters, friends, children of friends, kids at school, etc. I believe with more coverage a lot of issue we are having with fertility nowadays will be reduced.
This is the most ignorant post I have ever read. Such ignorance. Tueh
ReplyDeleteOmah shouldn't you show them the truth?
DeleteBVs,the antibodies a negative mother produces usually does not affect the first baby.
In subsequent pregnancies with positive babies, the mothers antibodies attack baby not to cause a miscarriage but to cause severe anemia and jaundice that can be life threatening.
That is why we give Rhogam
My mum is Rhesus negative and carried 5 of us to term!!! All of us are O+ like our father.
ReplyDeleteMy dad is O-. Doctors says that's why we're all girls & truly, only one woman has been a able to have a boy child for my dad. He has long given up on having a boy because all his women keep having girls.
ReplyDeleteTruly Rh factor awareness is important.
What has rhesus got to do with the sex of a baby ma? My dad is O-ve and I have four brothers. Abeg write what you know
DeleteIgnorance has really caused a lot of woman to be called lots of evil names like ogbanje, witch eating up all her children. This Rh factors should be taught in marriage counseling. I know a family friend people were calling a witch cos once she has a new baby, the old one will die. She lost 4 children until a medical student found the cause to Rh factor. She has 3 children now.
ReplyDeletePlz,wat if a RH+ woman gets pregnant to a RH- man. Is that also a threat to d woman? Plz,educate me cos ds other side of d RH combination wasn't mentioned up there. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI am B-,Hard five abortions out of ignorance because it seems like nothing where i come from! But my husband turned my life around, gave my life to Christ and today am a mother.Never had this awareness until i met my husband.Never proud of what i have done in time past even as a born again christian, whenever i look back,i always ask God for forgiveness.
ReplyDeleteme too i had 5 abortions before i got married it was at antenatal i found out i was rh negative, i just thank God cos i have a healthy child, took rhogam after 72 hours though but i had a miscarriage recently may God help me
DeleteAny problem with O Rh D'positive for man n woman A Rh D' positive to marry
