The governor described the report as the handiwork of junk journalists. He has also ordered the state Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the claims.
“The order was given on Friday and the commission has already swung into action,” Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar disclosed in a statement.
The statement quoted the governor as directing the commission to look into the immediate and remote circumstances surrounding the allegation. The commission was further urged to“unearth everything surrounding the incident” which originated from the Kano Zoological Gardens.
According to Ganduje: “There was no gorilla in the zoo. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the missing money in the zoo was a case of armed robbery.”
Managing Director of the zoo, Mallam Umar Yusif Umar also dismissed the reports. He stressed that the money was stolen by burglars and not a gorilla.
The animal was said to have swallowed N6.8 million generated by the Zoo. The money was said to be gate fees collected from visitors, particularly during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.from 1stnews
