Undergraduate Drowns At Pool Party....

A 100-level student in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, Kingsley Etim has drowned at a pool party.

It was learnt that the incident happened at a hotel in Uyo at about 9:00pm on Saturday night during a party at the hotel’s swimming pool.

The deceased was said to have been rushed to the University of Uyo's Health Center, where he was confirmed dead after efforts to revive him failed.

An anonymous witness said the deceased was discovered by one of his colleagues who spotted him in the pool, after others have left the water for other recreations.

She said:
“When my friends and I were about leaving the venue of the party to catch up with time before they locked our hostel, we heard someone had drowned in the pool. I was shocked because there was no sign of such and everyone had left the pool a long time ago.
“No one noticed he drowned probably because it was already dark and there was loud music. When he was brought out, people tried to revive him but it was all in vain,”

When the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Akwa Ibom, Odiko Mcdon was contacted on phone, he confirmed the incident, saying it is unfortunate.
He said the police have commenced preliminary investigations into the matter to unravel more facts concerning the incident, adding that they have not foreclosed any foul play.
He noted that the corpse has been deposited in a mortuary as investigations continue on the matter.

  4. If you can't swim, please stay away from the pool/river.

As good as I am when it comes to swimming, I take precautions, cos dem no de give award.

I can't even rescue a drowning person, so its best to stay off, or kindly use the children pool or a comfortable feet or kpatakpata baf for inside your bathroom.

    Rip to the dead.

  7. Why are people who can't swim going to swimming pools? Or is there something else we're not seeing that they're not telling us?

  10. Like seriously, Hotels should enforce strict rules against swimming @night, U can have a pool party by the pool side but no swimming... During the day, there re usually instructors waiting around to tutor learners, plus there re floaters made available in there. Plus it's easier to notice when one is either drowning or about to.. This is just getting too much... #sad

    1. Very good advice. I worked in a hotel and the hotel policy was that after 7pm no swimming in the pool.
