When A Phone Rings In Church - A Must Read!

Has your phone ever rang in Chruch because you forgot to put it on silent or switch it off?

His phone rang in church by accident during prayers.
The Pastor scolded him.

The worshippers admonished him after prayers for interrupting.
His wife kept on lecturing on his carelessness all the way home.
His co-vineyard workers shook their heads in disgust

You could see the shame, embarrassment and humiliation on his face.
He never stepped foot in the church again.

That evening, he went to a bar.
He was still nervous and trembling.

He spilled his drink on the table, bottle falls by accident and it splashed on some people.

Those it touched rushed towards him. He closed his eyes expecting bashing of words or slaps.

Instead they cared to know if he didn’t get a cut from the broken bottle.

The waiter apologized and gave him a napkin to clean himself.
The janitor mopped the floor.

The female manager offered him a complimentary drink.

She also gave him a huge hug and a peck while saying, "Don't worry man. Who doesn't make mistakes?"
He has not stopped going to that bar since then.

#Lesson

Sometimes our attitude as believers drives souls to Hell.

You can make a difference by how you treat people especially when they make mistakes.

* IF you cannot be a bridge to connect people, then do not be a wall to separate them.

* IF you cannot be a light to brighten people's good deeds then do not be darkness covering their efforts.

* IF you cannot be water to help people's crops sprout, then do not be a pest destroying their crops.

* IF you cannot be a vaccine to give life, do not be a virus to terminate it.

* IF you cannot be a pencil to write anyone's happiness, then try to be a nice eraser to remove their sadness.

We can always be each others keeper, let us resolve to heal the world and make it a better place. Yes, we can.

    1. Put your phones on silent to avoid such embarrassment. If we can switch off/silent it during interview, why allowing it to ring in the church?

  2. I always put my phone on silent while in church till the service is over before I can bring it out. It is wrong to answer calls while the service is going on. We have to respect God.

    4. From their comments, you can tell who rushes to comment blindly. I bet this sister did not read this write up but rushed to type her whatever. People that want be heard by all means. Aunty calm down, read and glean the message.
Respect God you say? Between when you insult people, tell lies, gbensh before marriage, succumb to anger, gossip maliciously etc and answering calls "in church", which one is a bigger disrespect to God? I just hate the sanctimonious attitude people put up in church but once they step out, they get back to default settings.

    5. This is the kind of snide comments ..the person in the story if put in human form received that made him sign a pact with the pub.

You respect constituted authority by switching your phone off in church and then respect God by imbibing the reasonable message passed to you while in the church

    6. Are you even sure you read the story to the end? Or you just read one line and rush to comment?

    8. All my life I have been disappointed by one man or another. My disappointment comes only when we start making preparation for marriage. It got to a point I couldn't get married again cos it scares me. I have no child cos no relationship ever turned to that. I tried to remain faithful to God but it was not easy and worsen the situation everybody around me is married. I decided to go for ivf but the thought of using donor sperm was scary. I discussed all with my pastor. In the end i met a single guy and before you know it, I got pregnant. I'm comfortable, I'm aging. I informed my pastor of what happened and I was shocked at the condemnation I got. I was confirmed barren before this miracle but nobody considered that. I finally had a miscarriage few days ago. Now i dont ever want to go to church again.

  3. Ok, but in a case where someone kept picking his calls in church and was talking like nothing was happening. People gave him this look of "oga go out na or put your phone on silence" for where? He still continued. That's so not cool please.

Even in the bible..there is the story of the prodigal son...Christ cane for the unsaved..bottomline some form of admonishment will make one embrace the devil..such things are done with caution and love

  4. Good yarns.
I learnt some good things here.
If the phone ring, the man off am, no need to bash am na.
But the persin wey them fit bash for Naija churches na ordinary people. If say a senator or other polithieves them phones ring, na pastor sef go apologize give am.
But the problem be say, Naija girls browse and upload pictures from inside church. You go read captions taya; "chilling for inside church...
    chilling with my pastor..."
When church come become deep freezer bikonu?
    Ajuju.😜

  5. Good lessons. Please if you are in the church put your phone in vibration, airplane mode or switch off.
And be disciplined not to answer it if in vibration.
I understand that some prefer to read their bibles from their phones.
There are so many bible apps that can be read offline and they are on google play.

  6. All I see wrong here was the reactions from the people at the church but was it wrong to have distracted the prayer section by a ringing phone? Oh yes it is. It shows indiscipline.

    1. It's one thing if his phone rang and it's another if he placed a call.

Those admonishments were just terrible ...besides one frequents where he or she is corrected with love.. unfortunately many churches have members who act exactly like those in the above synopsis.

  7. You see those loud tinton ringtones can be embarrassing eh. Na only you come church before you bring it out from your bag everybody is looking at you like you want to drive away God. lol. In the presence of God there's sensitivity to the spirit distractions are not good. There's an atmosphere in God's presence, unnecessary noise can be rude.

My phone ringtone sha is so sexy even if it rings in church those around will be nodding head. its nothing distracting at all and it's not even gospel. hehehe

  8. Imagine being with the US president and your phone rings, will you answer it?
So why answer it when in God's presence?
That is if the church gather in Jesus name.

    1. Lol...read the story and dont add embellishments naa. .my phone rang and I picked a call are 2 different things...so let me just stick with the story that his phone rang.

Btw have you not being in situations where you think you have switched off your phone or put it on silent and it rings out of the blue?

In another news though todays Christian's and something else are not Christian like...they care so much of the outside than the inside.
So are the rod and spoil the child no mean say make you kill the pickin or chase am comot house finally as punishment

  11. This reminded me of the story of the little girl that was left to die because ppl said she was a witch and nobody would take care of her, then the Danish woman filled with tattoos went and got her cleaned her up and now the child is thriving and in school. Sometimes the ppl who are expected to show love and forgiveness are the ones who ignore your suffering, and the ones who look like they belong in hell are the ones who come to the rescue.

  12. Nice one...the church I was attending before I got married, once your phone rings, the pastor seizes it. If you are married, you get it after service, if you are a youth, you’ll get it during mid week service. Teenagers are not allowed to bring phones to the church.

My husband does not trust all these new generation pastors so we go on our knees and worship God at home

  15. That was how I went to church in my hometown, normally I tie my scarf even when I go to Pentecostal Churches here in Abuja. It happened I forgot to carry my head tie as we had lodged in a hotel having had an event and had so many guests. I went to church, joined our family and I noticed the eyes that could kill. To make matters worse, I collected my niece from my mom and she was crying too much. The looks doubled with murmurs, like 21st century mom that can’t control her baby without head tie. I felt disappointed by their judgmental attitude.

  16. The attitude of some of us Christians is so intimidating and condemning that people no longer feel comfortable remaining in the Church. Here what the Bible says-: Galatians 6:1-2 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore ( correct) him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.(The Devotional Study Bible)
