Nigerian History

The 20 Naira note is the only Nigerian currency till date to feature a military man in person of General Murtala Mohammed of which the other notes featured civilians.

In 1975, he "invented" the word "Fellow Nigerians" when he gave his first broadcast to the nation.

  2. The phrase "of which" is used wrongly here. Also, "Fellow Nigerians" is not a word, it's a phrase.

  6. One of the best military head of states. He promised to conduct elections and hand over to a civilian government, though he died by February 1976, I'm happy Obasanjo continued in his legacy.

    God rest his soul.

    1. Murtala Mohammed remains one of the worst war criminals in the world. He murdered an unprecedented number of helpless women and children during the Nigeria vs Biafra war. You will go numb if you add the number of civilian men he killed. It’s mind boggling the Nigerian government are portraying him as a hero. History cannot be rewritten!

  8. Murtala Mohammed certainly deserves to be the only military head of state on the Nigerian currency notes; because he achieved within six months what many other so-called heads of state and presidents (except Obafemi Awolowo) could not achieve in 10 years. Adieu great leader, it still seems like yesterday when the forces of corruption and impunity took you out in cold blood and deprived this country of the dynamic future it deserved.

  9. Anon 14:48. Murtala Mohammed was sorely provoked upon receiving reports of what Biafran soldiers did to women and children in Benin, Warri and other areas of the Niger Delta. Up until that time, they were treating the Biafran soldiers with kid gloves not knowing that those ones were raping, killing and maiming people in the Niger-Delta. When he got to know, he changed the tide. They wanted war, he gave them war. A real Auchi man. Many do not know this. They believe he was a Northerner. False. He was a full fledged Niger-Deltan from Auchi in Edo state.
