If she's in America, it will be difficult. As far as I know, America has no extradition treaty with Nigeria. If Dr Anu is an American citizen, there's no visa to revoke and they can't deport her. So, she has to return to Nigeria WILLINGLY.

ReplyDeleteDeath is a complication in almost every medical procedure. I remember in medical school, when consenting for colonoscopies, some doctors would include death in the list of possible complications.
Also, based on the data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons last year, BBLs have the highest mortality of all plastic surgeries.
A patient dying from a fat embolism during this operation is a real risk and they should be informed before hand and given the mortality rate. I assume it'll be higher in Nigeria (currently 1 in 3000 in US).
I remember reading the original article on this blog, I believe it was from the sister of the deceased's perspective.
I'm not in anyway supporting the doctor. I'm just looking for the facts. I would like to know if she's a qualified surgeon or if there is evidence of negligence or malpractice, outside of the sister's testimony. Maybe, some others here have had dealings with her or nurses/anaesthesists have given their account of what transpired that day.
