Post Partum Depression (PPD)



Postpartum Depression is a mood disorder associated with childbirth which can affect both sexes (NIMH). Studies have found that an estimated 4 to 10 percent of fathers also suffer from postpartum depression in the first year after birth.
PDD can be caused by both physical and emotional factors. After childbirth, the levels of hormones (estrogen and progesterone) in a woman’s body quickly drop. This leads to chemical changes in her brain that may trigger mood swings. Pregnancy and birth are intensely emotional events. 


These milestones can bring joy, but they can also bring challenges that makes one feel sad, tired, and anxious. These feelings are normal, and they are called baby blues.

Symptoms of PDD are similar to that of baby blues which include: difficulty sleeping, appetite changes, excessive fatigue , decreased sexual drive, and frequent mood changes. However, these are also accompanied by other symptoms of major depression, which are not normal after childbirth, and may include depressed mood; loss of interest in pleasurable activities; feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and helplessness; suicide thoughts.


Any parent can develop postpartum depression but the following factors may increase the risk: poor support system, having history of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder.


 History of severe premenstrual syndrome, history of fertility treatments or miscarriage, history of trauma or abuse, traumatic or disappointing birth experience, having children while very young, stresses, such as marital or financial, substance abuse, sleep deprivation, loneliness, raising a child with special needs.

PDD can be treated with medication and psychotherapy.

My Mum will not let me enjoy my marriage,she has been in my house for over 2years now dat I gave birth.

She will not lift a finger to help in house chores. Yes she has rheumatism but she should at least help out and I dont have house help and also pregnant. I wonder the type of mother inlaw she will make. My husband is not too comfortable again with her presence but cant tell her to go. I wish I can tell her to give us space.

 I didnt notice it when we were growing up,if we come back from school,we will do all the house chores and i didnt mind because I will be like let her rest since we are around.Her business even affected my grades in school cos sometimes I will skip lectures for 2 days just to help her out . I Don know if I am mean but I need a little space.




*If she came for Omuguwo why did you allow her stay so long?And where will she go to if you throw her out?Your mum has Rheumatism and you want her to help out?why not get a house help?or you ask her nicely to help you out?

Your hubby is no longer comfortable with your mum because he sees you are also not comfortable..If it was your mother in law staying with you,you think her son will want her doing house chores?or have you say you are no longer comfortable with his mum?Be wise and handle this in a smart way...

The Misconception About Tradition Within 
The Confines Of Christianity...



Tradition is as old as nature itself and can't be wished away not even with the advent of Christianity. Today, some Christians are still in doubt and disbelief about tradition having a grip on them. These set of Christians, are usually the ones that portray themselves to be spiritually filled without recourse to constituted authorities and as such they believe tradition is demonic and ungodly and should be ignored.



Many years ago, a shocking story was told that happened in my community. A woman was married to a man for eight years without a child. A day came, the man died after a brief illness. Less than two years of his death, the wife already have another husband.



This woman defiled all advice given to her and went on with the wedding without informing the family of the late husband neither was her bride price returned to the deceased family.


Six month after the wedding, the new husband died one night on his sleep. Medically, there was nothing wrong with him. A year after he was buried, the wife follow suit. She was rushed to the hospital on her dying bed but doctors couldn't find anything wrong with her as well, and on the third day she died. What really happened to them???? The villagers have this to say, they were caught up by their own disobedience to the traditions of the land.



It will be of great importance to understand that tradition can't be taken away for Christianity, else there won't be anything like circumcision today. Do you know circumcision is a tradition? Jesus at eight days old undergo the traditional rite to be circumcised. Why didn't Christianity abolish that Jewish tradition but rightly embraced it?



If there is no significance connecting tradition and Christianity, why do Christianity uphold traditional marriages? Do you know traditional marriage has more of a value and recognition than the white wedding? A man was rejected by his would be in law when he presented to them minerals and malts as a traditional right. In my place it is called 'Igba n ukwu'. There should be kolanut and palm wine, even beers and hot drinks for it wasn't called 'Igba malt or mineral'.



The ideology of some Christians gave rise for the belief and notions that all about tradition is being associated with rituals, human sacrifice or some kind of fetish acts. The good traditions of the land should be adhered to and incorporated into our Christian faith so as to preserve our culture and identity as a people before we lost them all following westernization, just as our local traditional drums and instruments have become obsolete in our churches.

WORRIED MUM

I'm worried as my baby is almost 8months yet I haven't seen my menses. I didn't breastfeed exclusively (6months) as I had to go to work.

I went to see a doctor last month. We conducted a PT which comes out Negative.

I'm worried because I have never experienced this.... Once i put to bed, I see my menses after 2months.
