Actress Omotola Adebayo Talks About The Crazy Things She Did For Love

Curvy actress, Omotola Adebayo debuted in the film industry with her own production, Timutimu some years back and has since featured in about 25 movies including many soap operas.

In this interview, she opens up on her career, challenges and plans for the year. Enjoy it.

Tell us about your background

I am the second child from the family of four. I have two degrees, and I am currently pursuing my MSc.

How did you come into the movie industry?

I made a research and I realised that the best way to make a debut in the movie industry is to become a producer. And so, I did my first job, Timutimu. The rest is now history. I started officially in 2014.

How many movies have you produced?

I have a production company, Ogaagun Films, together with my brother, and we have been able to produce two English and six Yoruba films. We also have more projects on the way.

Can you describe your first experience in front of the camera?

It was fantastic. The camera and I had instant chemistry. It’s unlike what I thought initially.

Do you act under any influence?

I am naturally hyperactive, so taking anything to influence me is detrimental to my health.

Aside acting, what else do you do for a living?

I’m a serial entrepreneur. I do a lot of buying and selling – from cars to clothes, to landed properties, etc. I invest in anything that brings in good returns.

What can you leave acting for?

Absolutely nothing! Acting is my passion, so until I find something I am more passionate about, I can’t leave acting for anything.

Which is the most challenging role you have ever played?

It was in the film, Addict (Baraku) where I played a victim of domestic violence. In the film, I was given a severe beating over and over again. At a point, I thought Uncle Muyiwa Ademola was doing it deliberately, because the beating was so real

Any regrets so far?

My only regret would be not having the courage to venture into film production when I graduated from school. Back then, I was scared of what people and the society would say and think of me.

How romantic can you be?

I am very romantic and I so much believe in love.

Have you ever been heartbroken?

Yes o… Would I like to share my experience? No! It’s a foregone issue… I don’t want to dwell on the past.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve done for love?

Should I talk about it? Okay, I once shaved my hair for love.

What’s your take on the high rate of divorce in the movie industry?

The rate of divorce in the industry is alarming. Personally, I think it can be curbed if actors can keep their private lives away from the public. This will avail them enough room to sort out any differences they may have with their partners privately.

Who is your role model and why?

It’s Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. She is a go-getter like me. I admire how she’s been able to balance her career and family without having to sacrifice one for the other.

How do you relax?

I go on vacation when I feel I have overworked myself. I also go to the spa once in a while. I like to give myself a treat as a reward for my hard work.

What’s the most challenging thing you’ve ever done for your career?

I am naturally a chubby person and also a foodie. But as an actor, your look is very important, so I have to constantly watch what and when I eat. Working out at 6a.m every morning and taking smoothies afterwards is something I would gladly give up if I could, but I can’t. So, I think watching my weight is the most challenging thing I’ve done for my career.

How can you describe the growth in the movie industry lately?

I must confess, the growth is impressive and you can’t over-emphasise the role social media played in the growth of the movie industry. We now have more platforms to showcase our works, and other avenues to promote movies are emerging.

What should your fans expect from you this year?

My fans should look out for unconventional ideas and creativity. I am working on some brilliant scripts that will blow everybody’s mind.
