  1. okay so I've been wanting to post this for a long time.
I'm currently in school studying food Science and technology (not home economics or catering, that's what people think when I say I'm studying food science, it's purely science, we don't cook.) and there are many things that I've seen that can be improved on in some foods we eat, things like how to process some foods to prevent food scarcity, food spoilage and some other things but the real issue here is that I don't know what to do with them, I don't who to meet to share these ideas with and these ideas won't be stolen or something like that sha. in One word, these ideas are just hanging in the air with nothing to do about them. what should I do these ideas? who do I go to meet? help someone?!!! pls note that I'm still an undergraduate.

I posted this in ihn yesterday but didn't get any reply

    4. You need to test your idea and be sure it works, if it does, second step is to apply for a patent of the idea, just go to old secretariat and with your name and email and address you can file for a patent, after you patent it, the next step is to check the industry where this your idea is used, when you find them, you have to go and meet them and explain that you have a patent on a process that you would like to licence to them. And that you’re ready to explain, demonstrate but that your process works and will save them x amount of money etc.
try bunch of different companies until you find one that’s interested in it.
You are vague about your idea so I’m limited on my advice, but I’m a start up lawyer so I deal with creatives and patents but I’m not in Nigeria presently if not I would have seen you in person to guide you also I don’t know if your idea will apply beyond Nigeria for you to try an outside company or a world patent but anyways patent has to do with either the process that is use or the product but must be innovative and novel. Don’t forget to dress well and talk bold throughout this whole process.
      Good luck

    7. thanks anon 16:52. I've already looked up on how to apply for a patent in Nigeria and it seems I will need a lawyer but thanks a lot for the advice, I will put it in mind.

@umeh, I have a huge flair for innovations and research and I hate that I have to wait till final year before we are given something to work on and I'm not even close to my final year, I mean there is a lotttt of innovations that can be done in our food industry here in Nigeria, but what do they end up teaching us, how to make FUFU, garri and the likes, I mean, I'm so disappointed in us and our education system, we are sooo far behind in our curriculum.

  3. Ankara Business.

Ankara (Fabrics) is actually the 3rd best profit making business you could ever think of.

I started with NO capital, just my legs, eyes, and my Mobile Phone.
If you don't have any start up capital, and u have a good phone, you can easily walk into the market, go to where sales of Fabrics are, ask them for the price, snap with your phone and upload..

Open an Instagram or Facebook page, or better still continue using your page to advertise to people, from there, you will see clients..

You just have to be consistent, very very consistent and MAKE SURE YOU EAT ALWAYS BEFORE GOING TO THE MARKET..

    2nd Aspect!!

If you have enough capital starting from #42000 that's 10 Ankara with delivery to any location, you can order from me, and it will be sent to you immediately..

You will definitely make a gain of #10000 on 10 Ankara.. You can make it a side hustle, earning more than #20k in 2 weeks.

Buy and take them to your work place, show them to your colleague, they will surely buy n patronize you.

Before you know it, people will start referring you to others.
Abuja residents can come around and buy in wholesale from me, and also I can do home delivery..!!

    3rd Aspect of it..!!
If you also wish to invest in me and my ankara and get your money back in 7, 8 months, and you preferably stay in ABUJA, you can call me up.

You can come with your lawyers and paper work to kickstart. My shop is open for inspection and access.

      God bless u
      waiting to hear from u

      Delete
    5. Lady bug, you are buying at #4000 each, which has been my price since.. The #2000 is for delivery outside Abuja..

Your profit increases base on your consistency..

First profit is #9000 remove delivery, #7000 then do that 10 times in 2 weeks, that's #70,000 in two weeks..

It all boils down to consistency and your target market

      Delete
    6. I heard that they don't allow you to snap pictures when you enter market. Na true.
And also is there anything like Ankara silk? Ankara chiffon etc. Is Ankara only contton material?

Also which is the highest quality of Ankara material?

      Delete
    7. Lest I forget, the Ankara comes in 6 yards and you can sell per yard..

Selling per yard will increase your profit..

      3 yards for #2500-#2800

Target should be fashion designers, ready to make tailors

      Delete
    8. Ankara silk, Ankara chiffon are all different texture compared to cotton Ankara..

The silk and chiffon and satin are sold mostly per yard..

      They are transparent and light..

They are also cool.. But I don't sell them..

      I do mainly cotton Ankara..
And there are different Ankara which are not only cotton

      Delete
    9. They do allow to snap, but you have to be fast and friendly to the store owner...

Just tell then you like this particular cloth ooo, then tell them u wish to snap for your friends to see..

Please do that with smiles oo😀😀😀😀

Simple mathematics you don't know, it's only to troll people here that you know. They said you will make a profit of 10k on 10 Ankara bought for 4200 per one. You are asking how much you will sell it. Sell it 4300 na. Ewu

    11. ola if i should invest 100k into your business how much will i get in 6 months?

    12. @dimester..

I think those 3k Ankara can be gotten at #2000.
You can buy those #1500 own too and still make your money..

But most of the persons I sell to here to resell, buy cotton Ankara at #4000 to resell at #5000 or more..
Depending on your location, and how to convince your customers..

#2000 Ankara are owk too, but not of topnotch quality to #4000, #5000 or #7000 Ankara..

      Thanks

    1. Let me elaborate on my own reinvestment plan..

You can invest in my Ankara business, and get 20% profit after 8 months..

If its the interest you want after 8 months, you will get it, if its both, you will get them too..

      Delete
    2. Ola you mean I will tie down my money for 8 good months and then collect 20% of it after then? 8 months? Hian

      Delete
    3. Hi lily, yeah TB is way more profitable than FD. TB is you transacting with the FG directly which comes at a higher percentage depending on the duration which is like 10-15% while FD is you transacting with the bank at a lower rate of prolly 4-7% no matter the amount you want to fix. The last I did was TB of 4.5m with interest of about 180k or so for 90days. It’s been going down of late but doesn’t stop me from rolling over and I prefer 181 days which come with higher %. Talk to your account officer sha. And yes, your % is given upfront if your bid goes through.

  9. Business is good but you must have street sense and some packaging, let me share this:

Mama Bola and *** are both doing zobo business but *** as a graduate target a more savvy market, what did she do, she branded her Zobo and sells in moderate plastics, parkaged it in 12per pack and sells for #1000 for super mart while mama Bola sells in used coke bottles at bus stop for 100, but *** makes more profit at her comfort while mama Bola hawk in the sun with little profit next to nothing.

Mama Nkechi and *** are both into frozen food business but *** packaged hers by thoroughly washing, cut into sizes and package the frozen foods in ziplock bags and sells at 2k per pack(1kg) but mama Nkechi still used the old fashioned way of selling frozen foods, while *** cashes out daily, mama Nkechi just sell to make meagre profit

What I'm saying in all these is in business, know your target market, study your environment, don't go into business because others are doing it.

All businesses are saturated, the question is what stands you out of the crowd?😎😎😎😎

Be business wise, every kobo counts in business, separate your capital from petty cash😎😎😎😎

I wish you all flourish in your business endeavour, most important thing is go for what you enjoy doing!😎😎😎😎😎😎

  11. Cake making is profitable and it requires little capital for start up.

What you need is to get yourself trained, buy few baking equipments and you can start taking orders.

As you take more orders, learn to save and reinvest the money into buying of baking equipments and cake decorating tools.

Discipline is the only thing that can stop you from eating up all your profits .

I started my cake business with #30,000 i took to Onitsha where i bought my pans and few other items.

  22. Soup ingredients and foodstuff stuff is also good especially if you are starting small and you are in the neighbourhood.
Buy crayfish like half paint rubber, rice like two paint, beans two paint, eggs one crate, garri half bag(garri moves fast) etc from the big market. Buy onions, tomatoes, pepper, potatoes, from where they sell in basket, like Mile 12 market which is not far from me in Lagos. They will sell any amount you want for you and it will be plenty. Palm oil, vegetable oil, noodles one carton, etc, Sell them in small quantities and don't sell credit.
Do daily contribution from it, you will not lack little change to meet little expenses and also feed.
To start is not up to 20k asides table and space. That is what I did and me and my children are not hungry.

When God blesses you and you have large amount of money, expand and buy in large quantity like bag of rice and beans, 25litre rubber of palm oil, etc and also get a larger space.
I hope to get a container or small shop and expand when God blesses me.

    1. Thanks so much mummy J for this idea . I've had it in mind to add it to my baking business as it isn't bringing in so much returns like I expect. I've a shop,my only challenge is that the place is a bit far from home so I end up closing @3 or 4 as I've babies to pick from school. Don't u think it's too early? Will I still make sales if I close @4pm?
      Thanks for ur anticipated reply.

      Delete
    2. Closing early is bad for the type of business (selling pepper. People tends to buy more after close of work.

      Delete
    3. It depends on the location. If it's more of residential buildings, there are sales in the evening and night when people come back from work, you should arrange for school bus to come drop your kids for you in the shop if the school is not too far. If the location is more of shops and other businesses that do close in the evening, nothing much in the evening after you close by 4:pm. In any case, make sure you go very early, dress up very early as you are dressing for your kids, drop them in school and go straight to your shop. I tell you, there is great benefit in going early to one's business. I wish you the best.

You can go to General hospitals and health centres to sell also around your neighbourhood or church/mosque and even online self. Open a thread in Nairaland

    1. We have locally made rice here. I live in ilorin Kwara State. Ganmo is a town close to Ilorin. Ganmo market is every five days and the Tapa people usually bring it in large quantity to the market. Very cheap and nutritious rice But theirs have little stones, you can select the stones and repackage it.

Bale of lace is a good business. There are different designs in a bale and you will make more than 50percent profit. A bale is 250k.

tailoring materials (linings, scissors, elastic bands, buttons, chiffons, nets, gumstay etc)

this is a very good business especially for those selling to end users. you will make more money than wholesalers. wholesalers also make because they will have customers that buys in bulk , quickly make thier profit and restock again

  29. Let me share my little knowledge.
When i was serving in Ebonyi state, abakiliki, I learnt how to bake. So what I did mainly, was cupcakes. I made cupcakes and supplied to supermarket, stores And offices across the town. I also sold in the school I was teaching. Now I've progressed and learnt how to make big cakes too. I've done wedding cakes, birthday cakes and so on.
I love baking and My dream is to start that business again in Lagos, as we have a larger market here. From my saving, I've been able to buy my industrial oven and almost all the basic tool I need. What I need now is capital to buy ingredients.
I would also love to sell baking ingredients and tools to other bakers.

  30. I started my kpomo business with less than 7k. I used to buy from a woman who buys full cow skin but since last year, I buy directly from the abbatoir. I prefer the Lafia abbatoir where I buy the cow skins at a cheaper rate. They roast it there and I soak in water and wash when I come back to Abuja. I package in ziploc bags, store in freezer and distribute from there. It's a good business although quite stressful but no pain no gain, yeah? I'll encourage anyone who wants to go into the business.
Meanwhile I want to add dried fish to my business. I wouldn't want to buy from wholesalers but to go into the production, that is buy the fish and roast it myself. I'd need a partner/ investor for this business because it will require I buy a special oven for roasting the fish and not the usual open fire where the fish is exposed to sand and dirt. This is because I intend distributing to supermarkets, restaurants, hotels etc. My packaging would be topnotch. If you're interested please give me a call on 08032361269.
I'm a good business woman, you won't regret.

Forgive any typo, I was in a hurry.

  32. FOr stay at mum and students, you can try buying and selling of affordable but nice makeup products, ladies undies (pants and bra), affordable jewellries, fixing of nails, makeup and gele.. You can start this business with as little as 20k and make good profit from it... I actually started my business with less than 5k and and it has grown into 100k plus business.. All you need is being social and friendly... Take the items to your neigbours and please dont sell on credit (i do sha, because some of those cash comes in handy when you are broke).. I currently live in a not too busy environment in ikorodu and i make between 15-30k a month(no shop rent or unnecessary bills)... Actually my services are pretty affordable, i just increased my makeup and gele tying from 500-1000. I also fix nails and lashes at a far more affordable rate to my competitors which pull more traffick to my umbrella spot.. I can teach you how to start if you are interested .... God bless our huzzles.

  33. There is this lucrative business that a relative just introduced to me. She works in a big restaurant and told me to be supplying them smoked bush meat because their suppliers always disappoint them. I now started and talked to other restaurants.
I go to all these villages and buy fresh bush meat like alligator, grass cutter, etc. I buy alligator for 1500 or 2k depending on the size. I dry them myself using charcoal and firewood, then supply all these restaurants for 4k and above depending on the size of the bush meat and standard of the restaurant. This has been helping us to feed these few days that I started. It's better than all other businesses that I have done done the past. Especially my 9k salary teaching job. Lol
I hope to expand if I can get a business aid or loan. I will buy an oven and be drying them. It would make it more faster and so I can make more quantity. It will also make the meat to look neater. I will add smoked fish to it too and package it in sealable bags. If you live in Lagos, you may need to go to outskirts to buy the bush meat

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Laundry business is good.
You can get a good washing machine for 65thousand and above.
The price for a 6kg washing capacity is 65000.
You can start from there till you get money to buy a bigger one.

You will need a good iron too preferably Phillips product.
You will need an ironing board too.

What I think I important in laundry business is that you must know how to sort clothes by colours, texture, designs.... so that you wont spoil your custmers clothes.

Learn all that before venturing into the business.

Then, packaging is important too. Dont just wash their clothes and dump them inside any nylon you see. Get fashionable nylons even if you cant afford customised nylons for now.
      All the best. l

  39. I need someone to invest in my POS, money transfer and bills payment business. You will start getting interest at the end of one month. The interest rate will be discussed.
For those who want to start it.
Go to you bank customer service and tell them that you need a POS machine, they will tell you how to go about it. I got mine from my bank. You will need at least 50k in cash and another 50k in your account for you to make up to 3k as profit in a day. that is 100k total for start-up . In this case, you will not pay out big amount like 20k upwards, you pay 2k, 5k, 10k but if you have up to 300-500k, you can pay out big amount like 50k. Charges for 50k withdraw here is 1000, with good patronage you can make up to 5k or 7k in a day. People come to withdraw cash with their ATM cards using your POS, you will slash the amount they want to withdraw from their account plus charges or they pay you the charges in cash, your bank will credit you the following day, they will remove their own charges for their pos machine which is less than #50 per 1000. People can also do transfer to their loved ones using your account(Internet banking or mobile banking app) and you collect the cash equivalent from them plus the charges. You can also pay NEPA and cable TV bills using online platforms and you also charge them. This business moves well in areas where we have few banks or banks are faraway. You Will need to contact anyone doing it in your area to know the charges as they differ.

They sell the local rice in bags, half bag, small paint rubber, small plastic that contains 5milk cups called kobiowu, milk cups, etc.
They also sell potatoes. Very cheap at 1500 per big bag, cheaper than mile 12 in Lagos, we have pepper a tomatoes, pure oil made from groundnut. I'm even thinking of starting personal shopper business here for people who need these things outside Ilorin
