The minister made this known at a public hearing on the need to insulate teachers from the retirement age for public servants organised by the House Joint Committee on Basic Education and Public Service.
The minister said that it was as a means of improving the standard of basic and secondary education in the country.
Adamu informed the house joint committee that the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) had submitted the new retirement age proposal to the ministry and the National Assembly for approval.

Na wah o! 65 years? Will young minds ever be given the opportunity to deliver the job better? Cos I know these elderly workforce always repeat their notes for years, no research, no new idea, nothing! Just same old, same old. They also love it when students give it back to them the way it is in their notes. No creativity whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you wxowct from an ailing president. 65years ke? No rooms for fresh graduates then. This one na life time opportunity sef.
Deletestupid talk...lawyers and lecturers nko? nothing wrong with 65 years for teachers
DeleteWhat is a 65year old person still doing in the classroom? Retirement is a blessing not a curse but some people see it as a curse because of the end of salary.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if you can increase the retirement age of teachers, let it go round the civil service.
65 years is young. What do u mean what are they doing
DeleteOkay.
ReplyDeleteOk.....good luck to them...
ReplyDeleteNaija my country
ReplyDeleteThis man should go already
ReplyDeleteAll these old teachers do,is to sit down and be forming senior masters and mistresses. They are redundant. They are very archaic in their thinking, forgetting that times have changed. Imagine an old Guidance counselling practitioner in school stripping and leading a pupil or student round the school because he/she stole. If you try to correct them, they see you as confrontational. 60 years was okay enough.65 years? Wahala dey o.
ReplyDeleteInstead of him to create more jobs for the youths he is busy increasing retirement age. And they said we are the leaders of tomorrow. Mschew....
ReplyDeleteVery good and experienced teachers are very difficult to get nowadays. Not all this wishy-washy teachers that found themselves in the line because they couldn't pass JAMB or WAEC.
ReplyDeleteGood quality and passionate teachers should be allowed to serve till 65 as long as they feel capable.
