The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker gave this insight in Abuja on Friday night. Article 2 of the protocol forbids member countries from making “substantial modification” to their electoral laws less than six months to elections “except with the consent of a majority of political actors”.
Omo-Agege, who is a staunch supporter of the President, noted that with the elections less than three months away, signing the bill would violate the ECOWAS instrument.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are slated for Feb. 16, 2019, while those of governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on March 2.
Buhari, therefore, asked the National Assembly to specifically state in the bill that the amended Electoral Act would come into effect after the 2019 general elections.

Oh ok!
ReplyDeleteWhether he sign it or not is his business. Nigerians are tired of their lies and deceit.
ReplyDeleteI would have agreed with this statement if this was the first time it was brought up. He has been rejecting this amendment since 1st quarter of this year.
ReplyDeleteThe president is being evasive because his party knows that with the use of card reader, na daura sure pass for PMB
Is it not the same APC govt that has repeatedly flaunted Ecowas court orders to release dasuki yet they suddenly know how to obey some obscure guidance
ReplyDeleteMy dear the thing weak me... They only obey orders when it favors them.
DeleteSame thing that came to my mind.
DeleteWhy did NASS raise the bill 6 months to election? Now it’s just two months left. What time does INEC have to get acquitted with the new process and consequently conducting voters education. I think the commencement of the bill should be after 2019 elections to give INEC and the electorates more time to prepare.
