ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in May this year. When I received the diagnosis I thought my life has ended.
DeleteFrom the beginning of the year, my body changed, I started itching like mad, I was very weak. I got tired easily, had unexplained fever all the time then I started drinking anyhow. I became extremely thirsty. A blood test was carried out and I was called for a meeting and the news was broken. It's was type 2, told them I don't want medication. I changed my eating habit and last month when another blood sugar test was carried out, I not only had reduced blood sugar, I went below borderline to normal.
I am so determined not to let it rise again. That pain is not what one should live with. I watch anything I eat now and have moved my lazy self to the gym. To think I'm the youngest and all my older ones are ok. It all had to do with my weight. We all need to watch our weight. I was 13 stones but rose up to 15 stones after almost killing myself with food as a result of heartbreak.
Nothing should make you love yourself less. Health is wealth.
It is well with all diabetic patients.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your MIL Stella.
Sorry I want to ask **side 👀 @anon I'm sorry to think**
You mean she had diabetes all her life?
Asin, as a child?
If so, I never knew children too could have diabetes.
Some children have diabetes too. Juvenile diabetes. Though I don't know if that's what Stella means
DeleteKids do have it, Type 1 diabetes usually start at juvenile
DeleteOh wow!
DeleteThanks @Sh.
I’ve been diabetic since age 8, 30 years ago. It’s not been easy but God has been kind to me. I eat well..... at least try to. I workout 4-5 times a week. Don’t drink or smoke. Always check my blood sugar and take insulin injections daily. There are so many misconceptions about diabetes and the first is that sugar causes it or that you can never consume sugar once you’re diabetic but that’s false. Sugar can worsen it if you’re consume too much at the wrong time but sugar can also save your life if you have hypoglycemia. I honestly control mine with an active lifestyle. Workouts help me control my sugar and also helps me afford to consume a healthy dose of sugar just like non-diabetics because if I avoid it altogether with my workout routine, that would lead to hypoglycemia. Pregnancy was another experience altogether while diabetic. Your body feels like someone else’s and your entire system works and responds to food, exercise, etc differently. I had to record every single thing I ate it did throughout each day. The more the pregnancy grew, the less medications worked because the placenta blocks or causes the resistance to receptiveness to insulin. It is essential for the fetus but works against the mother’s body basically. So one has to carefully navigate that. I would wake up several times at night for 8 straight months to check my blood sugar or take insulin shot to make sure my blood sugar was conducive for the growing baby in me. Phew! God is good. You would never know I’m diabetic unless o tell you. Even my doctors keeps saying they forgets because I’m not overweight. Apparently, one of the first telltale signs of diabetes here is weight. Even though it isn’t the medical guideline but it is usually a visual reminder that they’re dealing with a diabetic, especially for type 2 diabetes. But I have type 1 because mine is juvenile onset. Besides all the things I have to do, I do forget that I am diabetic or maybe it has just become second nature to do things certain ways.
DeleteMay God heal all diabetes patients, use ur drugs and use herbal remedies also.
ReplyDeletePls stay off herbal products as dosage is always an issue which can damage kidney.
DeleteHmmmmm
ReplyDeleteDiabetes especially in Nigeria is like a death sentence
It changes everything about you, you meal plan and even lifestyle. Sometimes it is hereditary, sugar must not be too low or high. Insulin every damn time.
This disease works hand in hand with hypertension and stroke especially type 2.You can be size 12 today and reduce to 10 tomorrow. No more Milo and carbohydrates. All this was my mother's struggle for 23years. Please check your sugar level always, the machine is affordable.Minimize sugar intake.
Rest on mommy, you fought a good fight.
I am 27 diabetic and hypertensive. It has not been easy since june I was diagnosed. My whole life changed. About the crisis no be here o.That is life for you.
ReplyDeleteMy MIL has always been having issues of high sugar level but she can stop taking sugary stuff @63,infact I have to tell her firmly a particular day before she stops buying plenty sweets for my baby. I do look her with side eyes whenever she buys soft drink and dilute it with water. She's so strong headed and I've learnt to mind my business, even her children gan cannot correct her,she won't listen to them. There's a statement she likes to say "jedijedi ki nse mi"
ReplyDelete*can't
DeleteWell, she needs to cut down on her sugar intake, but then when they say avoid 'sugar' especially for diabetics, it more of carbs and not just the sugar we know, carbs is the main issue with diabetes
DeleteThis is exactly what my mother inlaw was doing until it finally killed her, she will be diluting Fanta, eating all the eatables. The day she died, it came with cough then heart attack and then in an instance she was gone, my sister inlaw would not hear word, she will not diet to save her life.
DeleteI am also tired of warning my hubby, he can eat rice for the rest of his life, he also loves sweet things, God help us p
my MIL too was stubborn till she went into a diabetic comma 2 years ago and never came out alive. my mum has been managing diabetes and her brother takes insulin shots daily. i had to make a lifestyle change recently too when i found out my sugar was high. i dont ever want to get to that stage so am watching my diet now.
Delete@46 lived with high blood pressure and diabetes for 10yrs with daily dose of insulin jab. But God help me reverse both issues with intensive exercises. Now sugar level always below 100mg/dL for fasting and BP 114/74. lifestyle got a lot to play, avoid alcohol and tobacco.
