Pastor Calls Off Wedding Over Couple’s Health Status

According to a report by Yen Ghana, the couple identified as Joyce Waithera and Paul Waithaka were instructed to take a HIV test before walking down the aisle and when the results came in, the pastor refused to officiate their wedding.

The cleric, Jesse Karanja, even went as far as calling the police to evacuate the couple’s guests out of the church compound.

The bride and groom could not bear the embarrassment and decided to stay away from the premises leaving the guests to feast on the food before leaving.
Everything from the decorations, sitting arrangements to the cars meant to ferry the bridal party went to waste after pastor Jesse refused to show up for the ceremony.

According to a guest close to the family, Jesse kept giving insensible excuses as to why the wedding could not take place.

“The pastor had been taking us round in circles since 10.30am to 6.30pm. He has given us excuses that do not make sense then decided to call the police for no reason. He is not a doctor and cannot comment on the couple’s status,” the irate guest let out.

Another guest stated the pastor had his own personal problems but had no right to transfer them to the couple that just wanted to be united as man and wife.
“I just pity their parents because I do not know what is going on in their minds,” he said.

A church elder was later recorded saying the Mizpah House of Prayer does not tolerate immorality and proclaims a life of purity. According to the church, sex before marriage is frowned upon and couples are required to stay celibate before marriage.

*So a couple who tested HIV Positive should not get married eh?what an insensitive Pastor for spreading their status to traumatise them...he could have called them and had a talk with them and if they are in agreement to marry then wed them..HIV is not gotten from sex alone!!!....What a Pastor!!!

  4. And who gave "pastor" the authority to conduct marriages?
How many couples did Jesus and his apostles join in wedlock?
Where in the New and Old Testaments did marriage take place in the church or synagogue?
Once a man pays the girl's father the bride price in a ceremony, marriage is conducted.
It is folks that are elevating the "pastors' to the position of "gods".

    1. This was exactly what I told a friend and he told me that it is the truth but not conventional. Imagine. When did humans reduce themselves from following the truth to following conventions?

  5. Pastor has no such right.

Anyway as an aside. I was in the US embassy in Lagos some years back. They sent people (myself and family inclusive) to a particular hospital in the Island for "medical checkup". The results were directly delivered to the embassy. I saw a lot of ladies and a few men cry uncontrollably. They won the DV lottery, were invited for the visa interview, resigned from their jobs, sold property to relocate only to be denied visas based on either HIV or TB or both. So sad.

  7. What if the bride was pregnant? Many churches does not wed pregnant couple.

  8. Maybe the pastor already told them to call it off but they felt he would be forced to wed them when he sees crowd. Didn't they communicate with him or any other church official the day before? If the bride is pregnant as against the church laws, then Pastor cannot change the laws for only them. It might not even be hiv related. I refuse to condemn anyone until we hear the full story.

  9. The real story is that the Pastor was sleeping with the bride. Thats why he kept postponing it.
