It was learnt that the deceased’s decision to end his own life might not be unconnected with depression and loneliness which he was believed to have suffered lately because his family (wife and children) are said to be living abroad.
Onyezili took his own life at the weekend by drinking a substance suspected to be poison after leaving behind a suicide note.
A colleague of the deceased, who wouldn’t want his name mentioned, told journalists that the family of Onyezili had abandoned him and that could have been the reason he decided to end it all.
The Director of Protocol and Information of the university, Mrs Roseline Waku, confirmed the incident but said she was not privy to the information contained in the suicide note.
When contacted, the Police Spokesman of the Benue Command, DSP Moses Joel Yamu, said he was yet to get the detail of the incident as of the time of this report.

So sad!!! I pray his soul find rest. Such a terrible act.
ReplyDeleteOMG the man really looked sick.
ReplyDeleteRIP professor. Suicide is a coward way to go.
May God forgive and receive you Amen
Dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Cowards way my foot! Take a blade and try giving yourself a cut.
DeleteI'm not saying suicide isn't wrong, but it takes an unexplainable pain for someone to choose to end their life.
To everyone going through some form of pain, my prayer is that you hang in there until you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

ReplyDeletedepression is so real.we should always try as much as possible to check up on family and friends.
My dad just called me crying, this is his good friend, more like his brother inlaw, what could have made him take his life ... it’s been a while I have heard my father cry
DeleteWow this is sad, May his soul Rest In Peace. Check on your loved one’s today and ask them “how are you doing? Tell me everything or anything you want to talk about”
ReplyDeleteMay God forgive you....
ReplyDeleteYou made a terrible mistake by taking your own life man.
ReplyDeleteNow you have gone, your family will come down to Nigeria to bury you....Even your wife could not even checked on you. Na wah.
Thanks Stella for saying reportedly as so far there's nothing to prove that this is true Nigerians don't investigate news they just copy and paste as seen on several sites. Prof Onyezili's case is still being investigated as nothing shows that he committed suicide, Mrs Waku is being sued for releasing info prior to the autopsy result as there was no external sign of suicide or poisoning. She might even be arrested for aiding in a cover up. Secondly his family never abandoned him they have lived in the U.K. since the 70s when he worked as a lecturer in several Universities and won several awards. He worked with UNICEF for years and his research is sort after in the Biochemical field all over the world. These stories are false his family is all over the place trying to figure out what happened and then false stories are already flying about.
ReplyDeleteWow!
DeleteWas waiting for this kind of comment.
DeleteThe story the media is telling doesn’t add up. Thanks for clarifying
OMG
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad
Reason why we can't leave my dad alone
Loneliness is bad
May his soul RIP
ReplyDeleteParents should be loving, don't treat your family in such a way that they all would abandon you during old age, you maltreat their mom, carry women to the detriment of your home and expect a handshake at your later days, only few would look your way. I took my mom to Australia and left my dad with his concubines, he is feeling like a god among women until he retires and they all flee, that is when he will remember he has a wife but unfortunately, my mom has moved on.
ReplyDeleteIt is not true. They've been away for decades and he goes over to see. He's with UN too.
ReplyDeleteBut they are grown and with their families. If he visits that's fine. One of the daughters was my classmate in UNICAL. She is doing well for herself in uk.!she was among the best graduating students in my class. RIP prof Onyezili
DeleteMay his soul rest in peace...Amen

ReplyDeleteIs that the narrative they want to go with? Who murdered this man?
ReplyDeleteThank you. This is plain murder and not suicide.
Delete'Don't even understand what ppl get so carried away about, with life outside Nigeria. Notwithstanding all her negatives, if not for the pleasant company of family and friends I hang out with when I get out there, I can't even stay two weeks outside the country without itching to get back. I take it that there's more to the story above.
ReplyDeleteOne man's meat is another man's poison. people are different and like different things just go with what works for you and stop trying to understand other people's feelings and decisions. There's no Peace better than minding one's business.
DeleteFoolish old men who wasted their youthful age in oppressing girls. They end up all alone, isolated, ignored and forgotten. By the time they wake up from their delusion, erectile dysfunction have set in and they will now be running after damaged single mothers, desperate poverty girls and broke ass women to attach his pity party on them. He will be looking for small girls young enough to be his grandkids to sleep with or to impress them with whatever tricks in his sleeves he still have left. Even his village people will ridicule him as efulefu and he will will be stuck in a rut without any savings, no pension from his so called "career" in Nigeria or where ever they are if abroad. Foolishness and misery will so much show face in his life that he will become a symbol of wasted life.
ReplyDelete*** The God fearing, clean and honorable women his age will be already happily well adjusted in their own life, travelling the world and spending $$$$$ on vacation, nice things and living the life, while he is there hustling his ass for peanut and waking up every morning to a hopeless life.
This one no be naija professor..ni? You never know how many girls and women he frustrated their studies, life, school education and career?
No shaking! To all the women or girls wronged in life by some wicked man, don't worry, leave it in prayers to God because karma knows the address and personal location of all oppressors on this earth!!! Their end will become irrelevant, far from glory and honor in this world. The will all die a miserable death, even if they live old, it will be filled with confusion and madness will follow them to their grave.
Outside d country u have peace of mind, even if u aren't so rich.i can sleep without my neighbours generator bringing out fumes that makes ventolin inhaler my bed mate.i have lived in naija more than30 years of my life.people still can't believe I left everything I have in naija to come n start afresh abroad.for my own case living in naija and living abroad is like comparing death and sleep.i have lived abroad less than 5years but sometimes I wonder how am gonna cope if I have to live in naija again.its that bad.
