The police has reportedly arrested hundreds of members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shiite Muslims who clashed with security operatives in Abuja earlier today.
According to reports, the suspects were arrested with petrol bombs and illicit drugs after the heated clash in Wuse district in the Federal Capital Territory.
The protesters reportedly set some police vehicles on fire during the clash as the security agents fired bullets and teargas at them.
The IMN members are protesting the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
This is the third day of the ongoing clash between security operatives and the Shiite members in Abuja. Due to the clashes, there has been heavy security presence in all the major entry points into the city, in an attempt to curb anarchy and loss of lives.

why is their leader still in detention?
ReplyDeleteCos Buhari is a bigot
DeleteThe government should curb this crisis. People now go around in fear
ReplyDeleteMasha Allah. God bless Buhari. If not for him, these people would have plunged Nigeria into major crises. These people are extremists and violent. They are just like Biafrans. Shoot any of them who threatens the peace of the country. Brainwashed idiots
ReplyDeleteLots and lots of protests happen in this city. If you want to protest, why not do it the right way without causing threats to others.
ReplyDeleteThat said, why isn't the court order to release their leader obeyed?
When elephants fight, the ground suffers it. These guys are determined and "fearless" the govt also. I hope they don't create a monster out of them (Just like Boko harram )
No wonder they were doing anyhow, their head is not correct.

ReplyDeleteI watched the video clip of what transpired between the military and the Shiite protester that left so many people dead.
The protesters actually threw stones on the force men. I was shocked seeing a man carrying stones to hit a force man that is pointing gun towards him. Who does that to a force man with a gun? What orientation or mindset does this people have? Even the military man was dodging the stones but at a point he couldn't take it anymore.
I wish there were better ways of dispersing the crowd but I doubt if teargas would have work on those youths I saw in that clips. Arrest on the other hand wouldn't be guaranteed as well neither would the military have ran away from them. The only option they had still wasn't the best but they were left with no choice.
Shiites leaders should redraw their followers from the street now to avoid more casualties. They should stay alive so they can vote out the government if they want a better leader to listen to their grievances.
You can shoot to disarm not kill
DeleteThe drugs is the reason why they go facing death the way they do. I Left work before closing time because of them yesterday.
ReplyDeleteImagine, armed protest.
