Obasanjo Says President Buhari Is TOO WEAK To Sign The Free Trade Agreement

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari’s hands are too weak to sign the African Free Trade Agreement.

The former President made the statement on Saturday while speaking at the Babacar Ndiaye lecture series in Bali, Indonesia, The Cable reports.

Obasanjo spoke on the theme, ‘Global Power Disequilibrium, Trade Wars and Implications for Africa’ during the international lecture series instituted by Afrexim Bank to honour Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, a former President of the African Development Bank, who died on July 13, 2017.

The event held from the sidelines of the 2018 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.

Obasanjo said he hoped that Nigeria will soon have a President who will sign the agreement.

He said, “Africa cannot overcome fears of trade wars till it achieves 50 per cent intra-Africa trade.

“The AfCTA is a good idea and for Nigeria, hopefully, we will have a president that will be able to sign it because the one that is there now, his hands are too weak to sign.”

Obasanjo’s criticism comes barely three months after the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, criticised the Buhari-led government for failing to sign the same free trade agreement.

She was four months pregnant when militant herdsmen attacked and sacked her community, killing several persons and injuring scores. In that attack, the invaders caught up with her while she was trying to escape and chopped off her right hand. She is currently taking refuge at the Abegena Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp in the outskirts of Makurdi, Benue State capital, cuddling and breastfeeding her five months old baby with one hand.

  2. By the time people understand the implication for the so-called free trade agreement as old wine of Colonialism, in new bottle called free trade...... you will come to reapect Buhari for not signing the agreement. And you will curse the evil agent of the white master like OBJ. The implication for a nation like Nigeria, the heart beat of it's region and continent, to open up just like that, we see what happened already with England, hence brexit. We sea America now becoming more nationalistic in all character, so why are they pushing for us to have open free trade among ourselves as a sign for economic freedom, but we don't set the policies, price etc that affect the trade. They do. If a nation like nigeria signs that agreement we open ourselves up to be wraken economically, militarily, immigration, health and environmental/ cross border bio attackto mention a few. The agenda to weaken Nigeria is only possible if we rush to believe OBJ. The strengthening of Nigeria shall come from giving Buhari a longer time and our patience to starve to weakness, those that have been starving us to death for years and they feel entitled to lie to use continuously to the extent that they anniont one of the biggest thief of our common wealth to come and be president so they can achieve their agenda to wraken our nation. Things are tough cos thing are working. Nigeria is gaining muscle with every pain and at the right time we shall look at ourselves and be proud of the work, you won't call it no pain and suffering any more, it will be work we all did together to build our nation. No pain no gain. Anybody coming to say now, they want to make it easy, na steriod be that o! We all know the effect if that, he they spoil body o! Don't believe OBJ.

  3. Obasanjo wrote in his memoir about Atiku: "What I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his parental background which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time,a propensity for poor judgment, his belief and reliance on marabouts , his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety truth and national interest for self and selfish interest" *Olusegun Obasanjo* *MY WATCH Volume 2 Pages 31- 32* Imagine Obasanjo's revelations on candidate Atiku years back and what Obasanjo is now spewing. How can we reconcile these extremes. He is also very petty and highly un-presidential.

    2. Obasanjo is human that can make a statement today and change it in future especially if its for the good of Nigerians .

This is one of the reason Obasanjo changed his mind , The great Injustice under buhari.

  4. Obsanjo speaking from both sides of his mouth as usual. We all know Buhari is not weak and if the free trade agreement was in the favour of Nigeria, he would have run to sign it. Obasanjo is just being his greedy and selfish old politician as usual. But your time for influencing the government and playing godfather is over. Buhari has nipped you, your power and influence in the bud. Na that pain go kill you
