The former president also stated that Atiku has the business experience and capacity to rule and create jobs for youths in the country should he emerge president of Nigeria at the 2019 general elections.
Obasanjo said this on Thursday at his penthouse residence inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital where he declared that he has forgiven his vice president between 1999 and 2003 of his ‘sins’.
Obasanjo also said that Atiku has asked for forgiveness and has shown remorse as regards the animosity between the duo.
He told Atiku, "There are still areas, nationally and internationally, where you have to mend fences and make amends. You will know how to handle what is already out and what may yet be put out by the opposition. But, I am convinced that if you continue with the attitude that brought you here with these distinguished leaders of goodwill, with remorse and contrite heart, the rest of the coast within and outside the country can be cleared. And if there is anything I can do and you want me to do in that respect, I will do.
“I am sure with the right attitude for change where necessary, and by putting lessons learned by you to work, you will get the understanding, cooperation, support and mandate – all at the national level. With Nigerians voting for you, it will mean that you secure their forgiveness and regain their confidence. It will be with the hope or assurance of a Paul on the road to Damascus Conversion. After all, change and conversion are of man. I believe that with a contrite heart, change is possible in everybody’s life and situation.
Obasanjo spoke after he emerged from a closed-door meeting with Atiku, PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George; founder of Living Faith Ministries, Bishop David Oyedepo, Sheik Abubakar Gumil; former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, Senator Ben Murray Bruce and leadership of Afenifere among others.

*Wow!!!
Atiku my president... Buhari starts packing, next year you're leaving...
ReplyDeleteThis picture depicts that there is no"permanent friend or enemy ". But this one that papa is here.... Hmmmm
ReplyDeletePapa Oyedepo isn't happy about the situation of things and as such he wouldn't love it to continue. I think Atiku begged them to go with him to seek forgiveness. Remember GEJ did the same thing as well but very late. Atiku is surely a politician that knows the game very well. There is a rumor that Buhari wants to drop Osibanjo and picks a vice from South East. This is the reason Atiku is delaying in picking a running mate. Suddenly Buhari has started wearing Ishi agu (Igbo attire) to deceive us but it won't work. The same 5% he will get again from us if at all it will be up to that.
DeleteIn this life, find a way to force your enemies into a compromise. I have always known both men will settle their differences someday. Politicians only have thing in common, personal interest lolzzx.
ReplyDelete2014, when Baba endorsed Buhari, the internet and people were hailing him for being relevant. Today some of those people are saying Baba no longer have value or rekevances. Isn't that funny and laughable? One thing should be certain here, Baba hasn't supported anyone that end up losing an elections. This is going to be a fight among the generals. I so much love the endorsement and will gladly say that Atiku has made it through this time around.
Among the words of OBJ to Atiku yesterday, I think I love this ones the most as he rightly put it;
“When you become Nigerian President which, insha-Allah, you will be, remember what we did together in government – we ran an administration by Nigerians for all Nigerians where merit and performance count more than blood relationship, friendship or kith and kin.
“Although some time and ground have been lost, you should endeavour to start from where we stopped and recover some lost ground, if not time.”
I don't get people insulting OBJ. Personally I think he feels responsible towards the state of Nigeria and his contribution to it. Let's be honest, Obj's and Atiku's government is still the best post democracy as unfortunate as it is. Obj helped Jonathan and he performed terribly, not wanting to repeat the same mistake he kicked Jonathan aside and supported Bubu and we can see the state of things. Now to Atiku. With all his faults Obasanjo isn't wrong this time, why should we be loyal to people that have nothing to offer us.
ReplyDeleteNow forget about Obasanjo, GEJ was the first president Nigerians overwhelmingly supported and voted for, he kindled love for country in so many people and then he disappointed a lot of people. Then came Bubu,I still think the biggest failure of GEJ is the emergence of Bubu. On a normal day, Bubu shouldn't be able to stand where GEJ is and what did we get from Bubu? Unprecedented hunger, poverty and suffering. If we now elect the same Bubu it means our mumu never do. I personally don't like Atiku but if the choice comes down to just him and Baba then I think Atiku should be given a choice. Not for the sake of anything, he might even be worse than Bubu but to send a clear message that Nigerians cannot be fooled. That 8 years is not an entitlement but must be earnestly and diligently worked for. That mediocrity and non performance would no longer be tolerated.
Forget Obasanjo he cannot dictate to us but it's good to continue the trend and rubbish the so called power of the incumbent. I really think that is the only thing that can save Nigerians, Nigeria and our future. Any leader will know it's not politics as usual and would sit up and work hard for the people if they want to come back.
With the Osun situation, I know APC will still rig the election but rigging can only take one so far. Please let us revolt massively. Our future is in our hands. #Atikulated!
I think obj have the interest of this great nation Nigeria at hand, he strongly want the country to move forward and not backward like buhari has left Nigeria.
