NYSC Camp Life

Before the service year Boulevard, there is/was a camp life which is a turning point for some......

I graduated around March this year and we were told the next batch to go for service will be around November, so I opted to search for a job no matter how small because I couldn't sit down at home for 8 months. Later got an internship with one of the banks here. The experience there was really nice but I spent more than half of my salary on transport fare alone. Lagos life ehn!

NYSC Registration

Mobilization list came out around June and we had to register around beginning of July or so. I couldn't register on time cos of my busy schedule at work, so I registered on a Saturday with one of my best friends (she was an intern in the same bank, just a different branch).

Call Up Letter

We got to check our call up letter 4 days to camp ( August 24th), I remember we were on our way back from school where we went to collect our Statement of result. We stayed at one BRT bus stop and checked individually, Zamfara stared back at me as I opened the NYSC portal. I was dumbfounded and shocked. But the only consolation was that my friend was posted there too and we were to camp in Katsina.

Camp Experience

Found out about buses to Katsina and luckily, an Uncle decided to pay for my flight ticket. Took a flight to Kano and then about 3 hours to Katsina.
We were asked to present our Medical certificate of fitness and call up letter at the 1st and 2nd gate and our boxes were searched. There was nothing like carrying your box on your head and jogging in Mani road camp. All those small Hausa boys helped with our bags till we got mattress and hostel.

Soldiers

The soldiers there were really nice, there was nothing like frog jump or unnecessary punishment. We were treated like VIPs, just the constant leg pain from standing for long for parade rehearsals, waking up super early and the annoying sound of the bugle and those super super boring lectures.

Katsina Camp

The sun in Katsina doesn't rest. As at 5pm, the sun is still shining bright and there's no way you won't get 4 shades darker before you get back. I'll likely attach my before and after for your eyes only.

All in all, the experience was fun. Got to board a plane for the 1st time, met new and amazing friends, lived the hostel life for once and the Northern life to a point too, even though their ladies aren't friendly at all. As usual there were stories of people having s#x in odd places, but nobody was caught in our own stream. I'm still on the redeployment process, so I'll send more stories as time goes on. Yours, Corper Bee.

Attached is my picture for your eyes only. I don join the gang too o

*WOW you are so pretty and dark skinned.....so dark......
Well done for not touching your skin and good luck as you serve the Motherland.

  2. Hmmmmm, i was posted to Nasarawa state and we were to camp in Keffi. The journey to camp was okay, getting hostel and bed space also went smoothly.
my Only problem were the soldier's!! those men were evil. very wicked people. after the first week, I meet one woman in Mami market that was from my hometown and with her help I started skipping parade's o. anytime dey start blowing that their suffer head "Trumpet" I will sneak into her shop and wear one uniform that her workers use so the wicked souls will think I am one of her staffs.. Every other thing was fun, I made cool friends that we still communicate sometimes.

    1. I can't relate,seems the most wicked soldiers,are in Nasarawa state.

Though humans are difficult to manage but their style of punishment is beyond evil.
