Wabba said, in an interview with TVC News, that this figure is unrealistic in the face of the harsh economic realities on ground.
The NLC chairman added that the proposed strike planned for Tuesday, November 6th would still go on if the governors insisted on this amount.
Nigerian governors have on Tuesday that states can only afford to raise the national minimum wage from N18, 000 to N22,500 as against the N30,000 being demanded by organised labour.
The governors said this after an emergency meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in Abuja late on Tuesday.
This was even as the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress held nationwide peaceful protests to sensitise Nigerians to the planned national strike scheduled to begin on November 6.
The two unions are demanding N30,000 as the national minimum wage.
The Federal Government had earlier offered to pay N24, 000 as minimum wage.
Labour had declared that it would order workers to go on strike from November 6, 2018, if government refused to take a decisive action on its demand.
*This is really really sad...even the N30k is nothing!!!
Tooorrr....
ReplyDeleteI pity government workers that support politicians... just 30k is difficult for them.
ReplyDeletePrices of everything in Nig is damn high ,yet salaries are owned and some are paid peanuts. God please Embarrass buharia out of that seat.
Is there any of these governors that give their side vulture 30k as transport money?
ReplyDeleteWhen they organize parties in government houses and import Naija campus girls, the pimps receive 1 million or more for these girls and give them a few hundreds and pocket the rest.
Just look at them very well when they stand -like pregnant men on antenatal visit.
The things wey dey climb my Naija girls diegwu!
Nigeria, the country where the ones earning hundreds of millions every month aren't ready the pay the people earning peanuts. God help us
ReplyDeleteIt is good to increase the minimum wage but NLC should first go on strike to force those owing salaries to pay. Some states ranging from 5 -18 months of non payment. Is it people that did not pay at 18k that will pay 30k
ReplyDeleteLabour union should tell us where the government can find the money
ReplyDeleteI weep for Nigeria. Tell me, how will a civil servant who dedicates all his time and still earns such a meager sum could take care of his/her financial responsibilities? Not like they give all of them allowances they deserve. No transport allowance. No housing allowance. Child and spouse allowances nko?
ReplyDeleteOne of the ways to reduce corruption is by increasing workers' warfare package to a reasonable level commiserate with services offered and time spent.
It is very sad this wouldn't be happening soon.
Good. I know Ortom the governor of Benue State will be the number one person to say they should pay 22,500 naira minimum wage because, even the 14 billion nairn Paris club money that was given to him to clear all outstanding salaries bn owned workers, he was able to pay only two months out of eight to more than one year salaries bn owned. And lied that he will pay the remaining months later. I'm waiting to see if the foolish Benue people will vote him back into power. Foolish man.
ReplyDeletesame with the stupid kogi governor...promising to pay new minimum wage when he has been owing salaries....he used the paris club bail out to award contracts
DeleteSo you mean to tell me that they can't even pay simple $100 USD. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, 22500 is only $62 and 30000 is $82. That is not minimum wage that is poverty wage, just one step above slavery. Even a single person cannot survive on that. No wonder life expectancy is only 47 years, you will be malnourished and hungry on pay like that. Would these governors be at peace with their children earning such?
