Labour Room Drama 231

Women are awesome and after reading this eh,you will agree with me!!!

Hi Stellz,

Here's my LRD...

I got pregnant when I least expected it and the first three months were the craziest. It got so bad that I had to resign from my job. I couldn't drink water for three months, I practically lived on Malt, white rice with beans and no stew till the first trimester passed.

Due date came, at exactly 12am, I started having serious pain in my back but I thought it was just one of those "routine pregnancy pains", my husband was in the guest room because I stopped wanting to sleep in the same bed with him at some point so he had to vacate the room.

Na so the pain start o, it became frequent so I had to wake my husband up that we should start going to the clinic, oga said we are not going till day break. I endured the pain till 5am and we left. Only for me to get to the hospital and and I was checked, the nurse said I was at 3cm, I shouted and started crying cos I knew it was going to be a long road to 10cm.

They admitted me and brethren, labour that was 3mins apart went back to 30mins apart, na there I know say I don enter. By that time, my grandma (I didn't want my mum cos that woman can fear for Africa) had landed from our place in Ibadan and she kept assuring me that I was going to be alright. By 1pm, another doctor came for vagina examination, I screamed the entire ward down; uncle said I was still at 3cm *hot tears*.

By that time I was already inactive labour for 13hrs. 3pm came, another senior consultant came to do another vagina examination. It wasn't his big and strong fingers that made me cry and scream uncontrollably, it was the fact that I was still at 3cm. He told the doctors watching me to prepare for augmentation, mumu me sef dey happy not knowing that I was in trouble. ..lol

I was asked to change into a wrapper and wheeled in the labour room. They passed a line and hooked me up to a drip, the moment a drop entered my arm, I went bat shit crazy from pain. So, I started screaming for help from my late father, begged the nurses, begged the doctors seating beside my bed etc. They kuku kept looking at me. Note that all these while, my amniotic sac was still intact so a doctor had to put a scissor in through my vagina/cervix to cut it open...JESUS!!!

After cutting the sac with me being in excruciating pain, they kept on checking my blood pressure and the baby's heartbeat was monitored. Then, a particular nurse started complaining about her not getting accurate heartbeat count from the baby, which means the baby may be in distress. This was after 3hrs of being on Oxytocin drip o *another round of hot tears*.

They quickly stopped the drip and placed me on oxygen for the baby. Right there and then I started asking for CS, the senior doctor in charge said that my cervix was good and it will dilate *yimu* and did another vagina examination (the 9th one). As I was screaming and shouting and puffing, they brought one woman in and she delivered her baby within 5mins, I come dey reason sey e be like sey dem follow me come o *cries in labour pain*

They made me rest for an hour then started another drip, immediately they started it, I told them I wasn't doing again that they should bring a knife and cut my stomach. After another 40mins on the drip, the baby's heartbeat dropped again and the senior doctor just told them to prepare for me for theatre. I was wheeled to the theatre, with 3mins my daughter was brought out and in another 30mins or so, I was wheeled to the ward. In all, I was in labour for 22hrs and if I had known it was going to end up in an emergency surgery, I'd have chosen surgery initially.

Thank God for the good nurses and doctors that were on duty, I saw my beautiful bundle of joy and I almost forgot all the pain.

She is a year and six months old now and we are expecting another baby *shines teeth*

*OMG;labour for 22 hours?thank God,it ended well

  10. I don’t know why most Nigerian hospitals don’t use foye catether to aid cervical and save women all this pain n stress. I went from 0cm to 6cm in less than 2hrs with no pain. Only felt pain @6m when active labour started and had my baby in less than 2hrs. In all my labour wasn’t even up to 4hrs

    1. My active labour always lasts for 2hours. I look very delicate but my strength comes out during labour. No crying. No shouting. Just gnashing of teeth. After delivery i walk myself back to the ward.

  11. Congratulations on your bundle of joy. Me I believe that once labour is more than 6 hrs and dilation is less than 5cm they should just do Cs ah ah...its barbaric for a human to go through so much pain for so long. Plus the cutting of the vagina. Please it's insane!. Some women end up with life long health problems from childbirth. An overhaul is needed seriously

  12. Thank God for a happy ending... I went through same stress with my first, after 10 hours of induced labour, i was rushed into the theater for CS. If had known, i would have opted for the later and safe myself the massive pain of induced labour. For the second, i jejely went for elective CS, fear of the unknown no let me wait again. At the end everything ended in praise. I for show aunty Stella my lovely boy and girl but my last mail to her was not acknowledged and posted but all the same i still love Mrs. Korkus and i don vote for her twice but he come be like say na only once person fit vote because na only one them acknowledge. My people having a child through CS is not a taboo or abomination. Virginal, CS, Hebrew woman all child birth. What matters the most, is a healthy baby and lively mother. Thank you.
