ReplyDeleteHmmmm, this whole marriage thing is looking like just a shame and a fraud on women especially those married to Nigerian men. So a baby mama legally collects 2k every month for child’s Upkeep. No MIL stress, no cooking and cleaning up after the man, no husband’s extended family’s demands to cater to, no stupid traditional or cultural nonesense to fellow that just adds extra stress to your life. No wicked MILs, SILs or BILs to suck up to. None! None of all those miserable extras. Just you and your child/ children. I’m married with 2kids and one on the way. Hubby stays in a different state cos of work. He makes 3 1/2 more than me in salary but yet I spend more on the home and kids than him. MIL came for “omugwo” after both births and wasvwith me for 8months and 1 year conservatively. I did everything and my responsibilities quadrupled instead of reducing. I sometimes didn’t eat right because I couldn’t cover all her demands and hubby only came home once in a month. She kept giving me rules and saying we don’t do this and that in our place etc. you can’t go here, you can’t go there. she tried to control what I fed the kids because they don’t eat certain things in their village (they’re Igbo and I’m mixed tribe). I was walking on eggshells because if you said something then you meant something else insulting and that would become another issue. After she went back, hubby and I asked hubby for more money for the home because it’s too much on me even after cutting costs and expenses. He said he was sending money home to his mother and was building a house in Nigeria. I told him it was all good but shouldn’t be at his family's expense. He increased monthly allowance a little but I still cover everything because the children are growing and needing more things. Ordinary car I haven’t been able to buy because all my money takes care of the home and I need a car instead of jumping buses everywhere with 2 kids in 2 schools. This can’t be life. I read the other chronicle where a fiancé was plannning to build a house for his parents with his future wife’s money and it touched a cord. Now I’m reading what baby mamas without any inlaws stress get for their kids and my allowance isn’t anywhere close to that for 2 children. I’m going to put my foot down now! He cannot kill me with all the expenses just because I’m working too. I need a car to ease things for us, I need to have savings just like him. I should be able to send at least Xmas gift to my parents too. I’m done doing the understanding Mumu wife. I can’t take another miserable omugwo season. My own mother is coming for the next one and my sister too. MIL can visit for a few weeks and then let my mother continue. At least she did the first 2 omugwos. When you’re married, these men use you till you’re flat and you’re supposed to be grateful because at least you’re marries and not a spinster or baby mama when those ones seem to have more relaxing and stress-free lives. You cannot sue your husband or else you’ll be called a gold digger yet he can milk you of everything you have while he does only the bare minimum. I’m a shadow of myself. Enough is enough. These men know what they’re doing. They’ll call you “wife material” “peaceful” “virtuous” etc as long as you’re a mumu. He can love you but if he know you have a mumu button, he’ll definitely take advantage of it. My new allowance and savings for my new car starts this month IJN!!!

Story! My rent a month here in Pennsylvania is $1200 and it’s still on the affordable/cheaper side compared to some of my friends in other areas of the same city and also other cities. You also haven’t calculated the gas, electricity and water bills. Also add feeding, health/medical expenses, school fees, clothing, toys, baby proofing the home, and all the unforeseen expenses that just spring up on you. So Adaobi was very correct. I used morning after pill 3 years ago. Plan B One-step to be precise. Boo and I went to CVS pharmacy together and he purchased it because I was panicking and he kept telling me to calm down. He bought a bottle of water too and I took it in the car on the way home. Today, we have a lovely, beautiful, energetic and delightful 2yr old daughter. I was so stunned when the doctor told me I was pregnant after I couldn’t see my period but was having period cramps. Even though we weren’t ready at first, she’s the best thing to ever happen to us. I’m no longer angry with Teva pharmaceuticals inc sef because how can you be angry when you see the delightfully contagious smile on my little girl’s face? Oh, and we got married in court 2 months after we found out, before my tummy started showing. Just did the church wedding and reception this February after our baby started walking. Of course, she was the little bride. So our story ended well because we had planned to get married within a year from the time I found out I was pregnant. Boo had asked for my hand and proposed but we weren’t yet ready fir the wedding. The pregnancy just got us to nervously rush things.
