Man Sentenced To Death For Armed Robbery

Get rich or die trying!

James Ofem who was arrested ny men of the Ondo state Police command for armed robbery in 2017 has been sentenced to death by hanging by a high court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He was arraigned before the court on two counts of conspiracy and armed robbery. During the trial, a prosecutor from the Department of Public Prosecutions, Ondo State Ministry of Justice, Wale Bamisile, told the court how Ofem with his gang on July 12, 2017 conspired to rob one Adamu Mustapha of his CoolPad phone, Infinix and Nokia handsets.

A witness, Sergeant Franklin Alabi of the Enuowa Police Station, Ondo town, who tendered the exhibits recovered from the convict before the court, stated that investigation into the case revealed that the culprit was involved in the robbery.

Another witness, Adamu Mustapha, who was also in the court explained that he and a motorboy were ambushed by Ofem’s robbery gang around Liyetu village on the Ondo-Ore Road.

He said they were beaten mercilessly and robbed of their personal belongings at gunpoint.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Williams Olamide, said Ofem was guilty of the charges of conspiracy and armed robbery preferred against him.

He said the witnesses made allusions to the use of arms in the armed robbery attacks executed by Ofem.

Olamide said, “The prosecution has proved the robbery case beyond reasonable doubt with evidence that the accused person is indeed guilty of the crime.”

The justice sentenced him to death by hanging.

  1. Isn't this sentence heavy? In as much as I strongly condemn crime especially armed robbery but does the sentence equate the act? I was reading to see if there will be any mention that he killed his victim but none. This judgement is very hard if I am to say, won't sentencing him to jail be better? Are this the real criminals we have in this country? So bad and unfortunate.

  6. the judge probably based his judgement on the sophistication of the crime. A mobile phone robber with a gun is as deadly as an assasin, irrespective of what the intention is. anything could go wrong and a person is dead.. so judgement well deserved .

besides these robbers are very heartless, that is how they matcheted an aunt of mine in the skull in the process of snatching her bag.
