Iya Ibeji Series -Accident Rescuer

Writing this post wads very emotional for me, because it brought back memories.

Few years ago my brother was involved in an accident and he was the only survivor.

I don't want to talk about the details of the accident today but rather I want to appreciate some special kind of people, the people that help accident victims.

When my brother had the accident these special people ran to the scene and started helping immediately. At first they thought he was dead so they left him aside and was attending to others then he moved and they quickly rushed him to the nearest hospital.

I'm this kind of person that can't stand blood. I don't go close to accident scenes, when I'm traveling and there is an accident on the road I close my eyes and that of my children.
Now imagine if everyone were like me who will help the victims? Who would have helped my brother?

After my brother's incident I really wanted to start helping but I just couldn't, the sight of blood, the sight of disjointed members of the body I just can't.
So to these very special set of people I say thank you. I pray for you today and always that God will bless you and he will be your ever present help.

There are people that put accident victims in their cars with blood flowing not minding the stains. There are people that rush these victims to hospitals and still pay deposits for treatment. There are even doctors that treat these people with or without money, how do we thank/ repay them? Sometimes they don't even wait to be appreciated. May God bless them richly and Keep them and their family safe.

I know there are people like me, good people that wants to help but can't even go close to accident scenes. Please if you are like me let's always remember these very special people in our prayers.

  2. I remembered the year two guys had an accident, people had already pronounced them dead. But my mum touched a vein in their necks and found out that they were still breathing, she started shouting and calling people to come and help her. That was how those guys were saved. Till today, those guys dont joke with my mum, I guess people told them about the story. They always come to great her whenever they come around.

  3. I really appreciate those people too. I can't stand blood at all, I can't even clean up a wound to know how worse mine is, but I know God doesn't create us the same. Kudos to all the people that do rescue accident victims

  5. Mama ibeji forget that thing wey you dey yarn. Everybody should be a live saver. Everyone of us is supposed to attend Basic living saving(BLS) Courses.
You can never tell who might need your help one day. Its not only to rescue accidents victims alone, also burns victims, choking person, someone that suffers cardiac arrest, etc.

    1. The way you talk sometimes eh...it is well
We all aren't wired same way.i can't stand vomit talk more of blood , if I perceive someone's vomit mine starts rushing out , doesn't mean I won't try to help by calling for attention if it's needed. Some of us just don't have the mind!

  7. Years ago on my way back to Lagos a bus had an accident and some of the passengers died instantly while others were alive, some were badly injured. I remember vividly a man wearing jokers and face cap helping the victims in to his Sienna. I can never forget the concern on his face. You can call him the coordinator of the rescue team. He looked like a baba who lived abroad and just came to visit in Nigeria. God bless him. After many years though I can't remember his face but is action will forever be in my heart

  8. Iya Ibeji and the likes, you can still help.
    1. Donate blood to accident victims. You do not need to see your blood collected.
    2. Donate money to charities that cater for them; red-cross/crescent, Stephen's center (mainly in northern Nigeria)
    3. Visit hospitals and donate monies to pay for "unknown" accident victims.

  10. The problem is that doctors in our country are very selfish set of people and would even go as far as denying the victim treatment with or without a police report irrespective of the oath the take/took. I also think that CPR should be a miscellaneous topic thought through upper primary to tertiary institutions. Anyone can be a victim or rescuer so it helps if you actually know what to do. Many people have been mistaken for dead due to ignorance, some have even gone as far as using their hands to kill themselves. Let's advocate for CPR/FIRST AID TRAINING for ourselves and children not just only if our churches or companies organize it but it should be inbuilt in our education system and not just as a single topic in health education but it should be a continuous training.
