The U.S. Embassy has said that the suspended consular services in Abuja may resume after the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
It read: “We regret the inconvenience this has caused to our applicants in Abuja and hope to resume operations after the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
”Please monitor the Facebook and Webpage of the U.S. Embassy for the next status update of consular operations in Abuja.”
The embassy had in a statement on Wednesday, announced temporary suspension of its regular services for visas and American Citizen Services in Abuja.
It, however, noted that other offices within the Embassy remained open.
The embassy stressed that consular functions at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos were not affected with the development.
The mission encouraged applicants to contact the Consular Office in Lagos for immediate emergency travel.

DeleteThe news is not exactly a great one, there'll be influx of applicants in the Lagos office.
ReplyDeleteSomeone submitted a passport with white powder juju inside that's why they shut it down...
ReplyDeleteExactly @ Anon 12:27.
DeleteThe suspension of Visa services in Abuja by the US embassy may not be unconnected to an incident that happened on Tuesday, 14th August.
Apparently, a Nigerian male had submitted his passport to the interviewer at the counter. The lady flipped through the pages and found a white substance (powder) in the Nigerian passport. She set off the buzzer and alarmed security.
Bottom line, the marines surrounded all 500 Visa applicants around that day and sent everyone out of the premises.
In the US Security guide, EVERY white substance is marked as INJURIOUS.
The place was sealed and the 'white substance' sent to America for further examination and CLASSIFICATION. Until it is clear that the applicant and the substance bear no harmful consequence to the security of the US embassy, every Visa services or traveling documentation will have to be rendered in Lagos.....with exception to ONLY American citizens living in Abuja.
So they are too big to tell us why they closed their embassy office abi?
ReplyDeleteMaybe there was a security threat and it has been taken care of
