MARRIAGE REGISTRY


These days, after doing your traditional marriage, either church or Islamic marriage people still go all out to do their court wedding then the issue of state or federal registry will spring up.

Court wedding in this context is not just the notification of marriage from the court but pronunciation as husband and wife in the presence of family and friends as well as swearing of oath, the witness from the bride and the groom family but one thing I still don’t understand is why people think the usage of federal registry is better than state registry.


When I was preparing for my wedding, I wanted to have my court wedding in my  LGA as that was where my elder sister did hers but a lot of people discouraged me from using the place that I should use the one at Ikoyi which is the federal registry.


Some were of the opinion that it is widely recognized, some said it is better to use it because if I want to travel out nobody will doubt my marriage certificate, some said it is the best that is why even our celebrities use the place. 


Well,   I eventually settled for it as the celeb that I am even though the stress of going and coming there was compared to none because we were in the mainland then.

But up till now I still don’t understand the special thing about it,  I really wish to know what makes it considered the best or could it be our mindset?

*Wait oh,so what is the paper signed in Church?I thought thats also same thing as going to the Registry?I signed mine at the Apapa Reg but i also had another one in Europe and even in a Catholic Church where you sign a d given a red book where some kind entries are made....Its complicated to explain the process here.

I think its all same but maybe the Ikoyi has more luxury talk cos its on the Island.

I have sat there, for the whole day, in the scorching sun and beating rain,  I have slept there, in a noble hom while fellow men in the dark night groan. I experienced it, a world where dreams were meant to be actualized, but the future of the poor, they bastardized and the poor ones of then they treat with disdain. I know one and indeed we know them, the leaders who gain from the followers’ pain, they've forgotten that life is just a game of chess. The king and common men goes to the box at the end.


 I know one, the one who to herself lays all knowledge but her foolishness to all around her is so trite,  her problem is not that she knows not, but to her, she knows not that she knows not. I know one, a friend whose daily bread comes from talking ill of people but, I also know the one who’ll never leave us even when need be


I heard his, the one who placed a bet on others’ future and forget his own. I know one, the one I run to when life turns cold , I’ve seen one, the one in whom I can never confide.


I’ve heard it, a false friend and a true enemy’s tale. We need them to grow and one day to rise
I know them; they are the challenges of life in human form
