Tips To Get Your Glow Back After Birthing Your Baby

Being a new mother requires you to always be on your toes and this might leave you sleep-deprived.

It can be difficult to even have a few minutes all by yourself. As a result, all of it takes a toll not only on your body but also on the glowing skin you once had. This can be attributed to many reasons like a change of lifestyle and physical body changes, especially the hormonal changes.

Cleanse your face

Wash away excess oil to prevent acne on your face by cleansing your face twice a day with a mild cleanser, which washes away dirt, oil and other harmful chemicals that could lead to breakouts on your skin.

Get plenty of sleep

It highly possible for you to deprive yourself of sleep because of your baby. The impact of sleep-denial is monumental. Make sure you do hit the bed whenever your little one is sleeping. Proper sleep will give you healthier skin. If you have dry skin, use a water-based moisturiser after washing your face.

Always stay hydrated

Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated. This will help you support the liver and also in monitoring and stabilising your hormones.

Make slight changes to your diet

Making a few changes in your diet is a good step. Just because you are not pregnant anymore doesn't mean you will increase your intake of junk food. Eat dark green, leafy vegetables such as cabbage, spinach and carrots. These types of veggies are rich in vitamins and full of anti-oxidants, which will keep your skin healthy.

Avoid eating sugary foods

Stop gorging on all that sugary food because they are unhealthy. You've had enough of pregnancy craving and it's time to keep a tab on your diet.

Get help, don't be superwoman. You can't do it all. Let oga and mama-in-law know you are weak and tired. If they come with the line"are you the fist to have a baby"? Let them know that yours is different and you can't be cooking, cleaning, taking care of baby. Finally, take care of yourself first, baby next. As long as baby is fed and changed, everything else can wait.

  2. Won't those leafy/green veggies make the new baby stool?

    1. Thank you for this comment. I gave birth 7months ago and I have resumed at work. I'm sleep deprived but what can I do? Getting some sleep is near impossible when you have no one to help

  5. Drink warm water in the mornings to lose weight and for flat tummy. Cut out sugar.

  6. Stay away from cold water, drink warm or room temperature water instead.

Do simple exercises like, sit ups, pelvic exercises and stretch your body.

Take your baby for a walk when you guys are not sleeping.

Don't forget to always talk to your friends, family members, your husband or even neighbours. This is also a form of stress reliever.

Do little cleaning here and there in the house. A bit of fresh air can change your psychology.

    Think only about negative things.

Always take your bath after your little morning exercises and don't forget to wear clean clothes.

Eat healthy! eat healthy!! eat healthy!!!

  8. Exfoliate your skin especially your tummy (if you didn't birth through CS oh). You know pregnancy makes one darker especially at the tummy area. Exfoliate and moisturize afterwards and you will glow up soonest.

Note... Apply religiously oils like coconut oil, olive oil or original Bio oil on your tummy, breasts and thighs while pregnant, it prevents stretch marks. I am a living witness

    1. Same here. When I'm pregnant I don't rub any other thing except coconut oil mixed with sheabutter.
I have no single strecthmark on my tommy.

    2. Moisturising those areas is important and staying away from all these toning lotions etc while pregnant is highly recommended.

  10. Please house, I've been sweating excessively since my last delivery. My scalp is not left out. I wash my hair every week because the sweat makes my hair itch and sweat. How do I stop this sweating on the scalp? Can't make any fancy hair cos it starts smelling after a week.

  11. Enough sleep? In what world please? I'm a new mum and even though I have a nanny, my baby still stays by my side almost all the time. He barely sleeps 3 hours all night so the 'enough sleep' part is a fantasy.

    1. My baby feeds every 2hours, add burping, changing diapers, bathing, mom's stuff and the time has flown. Sleep deprivation is a default.

  12. You forgot to add Ada Mbaise lol.
I birthed my LO over 2months ago. I gained 20kg during the pregnancy from over eating (I guess). What works for me is the part fasting I read on this blog.
I eat dinner at 7pm, and take breakfast at 1pm (but I stay hydrated by taking water during this period) .
Also, I partially eliminated starchy foods and reduced portion size.
Now I have lost over 10kg.
I tried Aju mbaaise but it increased by baby's colic reaction, don't know why. I might resume later though.

    1. I am not taking anymore, I am almost disappearing. Lol

For colic, after baby is done feeding and burped. Raise baby’s feet a little and make bicycle ride like movements with them. Like baby is riding a bicycle. This helps eliminate gas trapped in the tommy more and gives them comfort.

      Delete
    2. The way my baby loves that cycling moves eh! He'll just be giggling as he detonates his plenty bombs. Na my nose dey suffer am.

    3. You can also try this... make sure the whole nipple enters baby’s mouth when the baby is sucking..this method does not allow air in while baby sucks..I’ve tried it with my daughter(2yrs,7months) and now my son (2 months) and they had no colic pain

    4. Dindu, good tip there. It even prevents that terrible sore on the nipple nursing mothers experience at the beginning part of breastfeeding.

  13. The question Stella has been asking has not been answered. Is aju mbaise bitter? Please I need an answer.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Almost bitter(not like bitter leaf or Kola). Not unbearable though. Depending on the quantifty of ‘Uda’ in it.

  14. How you treat your body while pregnant determines how fast you bounce back after having your baby in some cases. If you binge on junk food and eat for TWO when pregnant, remember to put in that same energy to lose it. which can be very tough.
Taking walks and generally engaging in very little exercises while pregnant firms up your body. Even after delivery your body goes back gradually.

The dark patches on the skin(pigmentation) will fade away with time. Scrub atleast once a week.
Take your time, Don’t put yourself under immense pressure but eat right.

I don't understand your written igbo.
      Jesuuuuuuuuuu Oluwa.
So so sorry Madam, if that's what you meant.
Chai, I truly understand how you feel. Lost mine too, but God has the final say. He'll do it again and again. This time, there won't be any sorrow Amen.

  15. Stop tying wrapper across your chest looking like Mama Okonofua with big bushel under each armpit.
I say stop tying wrapper across your chest.
The fact that you just gave birth does not mean you should go about looking like scattered egg. Make sure you look good for yourself.
    It improves your mood.

    1. You're right anon, the only wrappers in my house are the ones I use in backing my baby.backing only.

      Delete
    2. Don't use them.
Not only are they razz, I mean it's 2018, you, they also compress your breasts and hamper circulation.
So many women carrying teabag titties upandan complaining, breast almost touching belly button. You don't know you are inadvertently making things worse?
      Buy a baby pouch.
You can switch it from front to back if you insist on carrying your baby on your back and applying unnecessary pressure to your back, breasts and waist.

    1. Lagos shopper, I battled same with just my daughter.. infact one year post delivery same thing.. till Mumsy introduced me to p carotte(white bottle) and extract soap... it does not bleach you and actually takes months to tone you. After toning you, you still remain same and your skin glowing n fresher,I didn’t suffer it with my baby cos my skin was glowing before pregnancy, while pregnant and post pregnancy.i’ve been using it since 2017 January.it’s between 4300-5500 in Lagos depending if you buying in bulk or retail for the lotion
