    1. Exactly, that’s how last year I gave a material to be sewed to an assumed fashion designer and she said 2k I was so happy because even 5k can’t be taken to sew anything now. Tym to collect, the cloth wasn’t even ironed and when I complained she said she’s not a laundry person, the cloth was opposite of what I showed her. I paid 2k so I just collect the cloth dash person. Next time I want be greedy to pay well to sew.

  4. And im sure she paid 3k for the sewing. The thing is if you are going to give your clothe to a 3k tailor don't give them anything complicated.
I have various tailors for different occasions. I have the one on my street that sews strictly iro and buba 2k. I have the average one I give maybe Ankara to and she collects 7k. I don't give her any expensive material. Maybe just these cheap Ankara aso-ebi and I make sure the style is as simple as possible.
Then I have my designer for those expensive lace. I can do anyhow style she will get it. Her charge is 25k/30k and she is worth it.

    4. we charge base on our location, you don't expect me that's in ikorodu to charge 30k for a gown nau

    5. That is very expensive. The tailor i use can sew the above style perfectly and wont charge more than 3k or 3k5 but you will provide all the materials needed. Why would you pay N25k for sewing?

      Delete
    6. Fine babe tailors collect even above that. The thing is their tailors who can sew better and cheaper but no publicity, so you do Get to know them. And the 25/30k tailor will still spoil the cloth sometimes change your style, still doesn’t deliver on time. And can still do some funny breast and hips mistakes.

  5. Some of these tailors learned the work online or they didn't finished their learning and went straight to open their own tailoring shop without knowing the work 💯.

In their heads they can sew the dress, but with their hands holding the pen and scissors, they can do nothing.

  6. Hand meet the Ankara(the one on the left)

That was how one made a dress for me, it turned out to be something else. I refused to collect it. I asked her to keep it.

  7. It's not only Nigeria tailor
It's the whole artisans in Nigeria. They are full of disappointment and lies
I gave a friend to help me make a dress because I wanted to patronize to encourage her as a new tailor ,I was not disappointed I started crying .lol

    2. How much did she pay. From the dress on the right, the peplum/cascade on the waist has horse hair. The fabrics are different. I would have preferred to see the dress on someone before completely writing it off. But then again, how much did she pay

  10. Let the owner wear it, maybe the fitting will come out. The way she's holding it is not doing justice to the dress.

Most modern designs require a lot of time and experience to accomplish....if a tailor charges u 2k or 3k for dat kind of design, my advise....just run cause u will be disappointed...but naija we like cheap things so...on average a tailor that is good will charge 5k and above....

  13. That's how one tailor sew nonsense for me and she charged 2500 Naira for short gown

    1. You’re cheap. She gave you 2500 worth of work. If you have high taste pay the appropriate price and stop complaining.

      Delete
    2. n2500? What where you expecting? That’s alteration price. How much did you buy the fabric that you will use 2k to sew.

Always should remember you get what you pay for and sometimes you cannot cut corners with these things or you end up spending double.

  14. The fabric used is not even the same to start, secondly the one on the left seems like the work of a freehand tailor.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

    1. To tell me she can’t sew it and do the one she can sew abi which one is nod head in agreement, collect money and disappoint me. I have tailor who would tell you straight up she can’t sew a style and would show you an alternative that she can get perfectly.

    2. I can make the cloth up 👆there with Ankara and you will be shock when you see the outcome,a trial will convince you

    3. God bless that your tailor Doppelgänger. Most tailors never tell the truth. The take more than the can sew. Collect styles that they can sew only in the dream.

  19. It is not always about the tailor
Most time, its about body shape, the way a style would look on a slim body is different from how it would look on a chubby body

    1. Thank you Brandedme. I'm a fashion designer, that dress on the left is probably for a fat person with lion shape. As in, fatter on the upper side of the body. I can't judge the style until the owner wears it. Clothes look better when worn on the body.

  20. LMAO. Some tailors are something else! I have had my fair share of bad tailors. Sometimes, I just feel that I sewing a dress isn't for me. So, my friend introduced me to her tailor that has been making beautiful dresses for her. I decided to try him, he made very beautiful top and a skirt for me. I was very happy when I received my clothes. I tried the top, it fitted very well and then went ahead to wear the skirt, and that was the beginning of my frustration. It was very tight that my hip couldn't fit in. I was angry and so I called him and he begged me to bring back the skirt for adjustment. I got to his shop and asked him what went wrong? He said that please I shouldn't be angry that when he made the skirt, he thought it will be too bogus on me that was why he reduced my measurement. I didn't know when I started laughing.

  21. My tailour will tell her customers "if you give me 3k I will sew 3k cloth for you". The one on the left is done by an apprentice and the fabric used cannot make the cloth stand firm like the one in the right.

  22. We have good tailors that can sew any style of ur choice. I have a sister in school that sew as little as 3k. My younger sis now sew my dress and hijabs and she is doing perfectly well.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Different factors are responsible:
Body type- not all clothing styles fit/accentuate your figure
Fabric choice- it's a no-brainer to copy a style using a different fabric. You will not get the same look
Ill-skilled- clearly, the tailor on the left Could not sew it
Integrity- it's okay to not know how to replicate styles. Just say you cannot, simple.
    Price- not quite.not always

  24. Despite the fact that i tried sowing for years and learnt(not to perfection) for 8months myself,iv hardly been lucky,4 clothes have been totally ruined this year so I just decided to stick to the new tailor I met last month who charges from 5k for a dress but is sure of what shes making....

    ReplyDelete
  25. How long does it take for one to learn sewing to become close to perfection?
