Labour Room Drama 228...

Oh Dear!!!...

Hello SD,
I was wondering if you still publish LRD because I just experienced mine and I wish to share. I put to bed on the 17th of August 2018 and I was in Labour for close to 30hrs.

I must say that even though I have a very high threshold for pain, this one pass me honestly. It all started on the night of the 15th. I couldn't sleep. Initially, I thought it was the normal discomfort I usually experienced at night time but when I visited the loo for the 1 millionth time that night and saw the "bloody show", I knew it was time because the pain and discomfort had started to increase too.

So immediately it was day break, hubby and I drove to the hospital. The nurse on duty requested to check me. After putting the full length of her arm inside me, she said I wasn't dilating. Aah! How can i not be dilating? Plus i just opened this my bombom for you just for nothing abi? That was how she asked us to go back home oh.

On getting home, I tried to sleep but the pain kept increasing. Eventually at about 3pm, I decided to call my doctor. He asked that I come back to the hospital so we went back. Getting to his exam room, he was like, "oya madam, pull your trouser and spread your legs".

You needed to see the look on hubby's face. I was in pain oh but I almost died of laughter. To taunt him the more, I asked hubby to help me pull the trouser sef. He was just squeezing face anyhow and shaking his head. The doctor checked and said I was already 4cm and asked that I go home and come back by 8pm.

Getting back to the hospital that night, I was rechecked and was still at 4cm so they decided to induce me further. Mehnnnnn!

That was when the real pain started. And because I was on IVs as well, I had to lay down on my left side all through. I didnt care oh, I screamed down the whole hospital that night. At about 4am, my parents who had been on edge all through called.

My dad requested to speak with me. Hearing his shaky voice like he was on the verge of crying upon hearing I was still at 5cm and still in labor broke me. That was when my screams were accompanied with tears. I kept saying I couldn't go on. Thank God for hubby and a dear friend who flew in from Abuja that were with me all through.

Finally, after all the whole poking and screaming and checking my cervix which by the way was extremely painful, I birthed my son at exactly 10:10am and at 8cm. The doctor and nurses kept shouting and telling me not to push but mehn, I had had enough of the pain and just wanted the baby out. Thank God they were able to catch him as he practically flew out of me.

After he came out, I was bleeding so much the doctor was scared I had some torn up something inside as she kept putting her hand to check where I was bleeding from.(it was a female Doc on duty that night). Eventually though, they were able to find d source of the bleeding and I was stitched up. The tear nko?

Well, let's just say that place is on lock and key for the next 6months. Lol. Aah, Stella ehn, At that moment my baby was placed on my chest, with all thoughts or feeling of pain gone, it truly felt like the most beautiful moment of my life. Lol.

It's been a week since then but I can't stop staring at him with this wide smile on my face. Anyways, thank you for reading. I hope it wasn't boring. Lol.

*Wow your ponyor must be badly bruised....I had goose bumps reading this..God bless you new mama, the pain at the hospital is nothing compared to the life changing experience you are about to go through, your life will NEVER be the same darling.....We Welcome you to Motherhood!!!

  7. That is why you only push until you are fully dilated to prevent bleeding and the likes. Congrats on the birth of your new baby.

  9. Thank God for you dear and congrats on your new baby.

On another note, if u notice you are in labour, it's better to take a long walk as this will hasten your dilation. Instead of riding to the hospital u could choose to walk it. By the time you walk for like 2 hours...u will dilate sharp sharp. It worked for me.

As for your ponyor under lock and key...hahahahaha. I can imagine the pain of the stitches from the tear made you say that. That thing can drive one gaga.

It's already a week, so I know it must be relieving by now. Get gentamicin(tube) and apply on it, within 3 days, you would be good to go.

  12. 1 was scared when you said you pushed at 8cm. Please ask for epidural next time abeg. Good Hospitals in Nigeria give it. The pains are terrible so that you push earlier than 10cm it could lead to cervical tear which will eventually cause post pàrtum haemorrhage. Take care of your baby and yourself.
