Uduaghan’s long awaited departure from the PDP is a major blow to the party and could possibly trigger a wave of defections of more aggrieved party members in the state, who are unhappy with the way the party is being run under incumbent governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who many have described as vindictive and bigoted.
The ruling PDP in the state has been in disarray following speculations of Uduaghan’s defection which prompted several unsuccessful moves to appease him to stay so as not to bolster the APC which is hell bent on defeating Okowa and the PDP in the coming elections.
Most importantly, Uduaghan’s departure marks a major crack in the Chief James Ibori political clique, which is facing the biggest power-sharing crisis it has ever managed since it gained power in 1999.
The former governor had hinted that he was on the verge of dumping the PDP for the APC in a published media interview last week. Two ranking party sources who opted to remain anonymous, confirmed his formal entry into the APC on Monday.
Uduaghan, Ibori’s first cousin, left the party when it became obvious that Okowa and some of his lieutenants were blocking his senatorial bid on the PDP platform even after Ibori’s persistent intervention, thus fueling talks that Ibori’s once dominant influence on affairs of government and the party has been significantly weakened by Okowa.
Curiously, Ibori and Uduaghan were a no-show at Sunday’s celebration and thanksgiving service in capital Asaba to mark the state’s 27 years anniversary.
Prior to his defection Monday, Uduaghan met privately with Tinubu, the very influential national leader of the APC, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha and Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the APC.
The leaders of the party have assured him that he would get the APC’s Delta South Senatorial ticket in the 2019 elections.

ReplyDeleteBig Congrats...your sins are wiped away.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Ibori will move to APC too. Okowa may now lose next year.
ReplyDeleteEven if 100 of Udughans defect to APC, it won't affect d outcome of PDP winning 2019 election. Deltans dislike Uduaghan pass shit, even in his village Koko. D Senate he wants to go, won't materialise sef bcos James Manager and Diden hv filled dt space. I repeat pple hate Uduaghan with a passion.

ReplyDeleteIfeanyi Okowa is currently cleaning up the huge mess left by this man. Deltans have rejected him to the point that he will not win even a local government election. Delta is PDP.
ReplyDeleteUduaghan is not significant in Delta politics. PDP is it in Delta. Uduaghan stole the state money so much that the state is impoverish and so poor. An oil rich state yet so poor. His wife was d biggest thief ever produced in d state. Deltans curse scatter d daughter marriage and will destroy Matthew & Roll soon. What business does he have in d Senate? As a gov he couldn't perform, na for Senate he go do magic. A petty thief he is . Shame. So thieves go to APC???
ReplyDeleteThis thief has gone to APC?
