Mama Tee Series -The Reigning Sickness In Town

Can you take a guess?

The Fibroid is the reigning sickness in town now, affecting women, both married and single.

The way I hear it on everyone's lips nowadays makes me wonder if it is the new malaria fever.

The other day, my hairdresser, referring to fibroids said:

"they said any woman that does not have it will not be able to conceive, it aids conception"

Ogheneme!

I explained and explained to her about fibroids before she understood.

Fibroids are non-cancerous tumours that grow on the wall of the uterus and affects women of childbearing age. It ranges in size from the size of a pea to that of a melon.
However, the fibroids in more than half of those who have it are not big enough to be detected and do not give any symptom (according to my research on Google).

In those days, I used to hear doctors say it becomes a problem to women who were above 30yrs especially if there had been no 'activity' in the womb since becoming adult. Nowadays, it seems fibroids have grown wings, causing great pains in young women even in their 20s whether there had been 'activities' in the womb or not.

I was not spared too.

Prior to getting pregnant, I did not have any cause to worry about fibroids but when I was 8months gone, I started having serious pains around my navel, I ran to the hospital.

After everything, yours truly was diagnosed with fibroids. They were three in number but small in size, sitting outside my womb.
My doctor said they were tapping from my baby's nutrients and also growing as the baby grew and that the space outside there was getting too tight for them, this caused the pains.

A look at my big tummy back then and you would see them like three small bumps, sometimes they changed position as the baby moved. Imagine them sharing food with my baby and also complaining about room space. Wonders!

Well, I was given drugs to manage the pain and the doctor assured me that they will shrink after delivery and start growing again when I get pregnant. Hian! Now I'm beginning to imagine how the pains would be like next time.

That was my experience oh. My people, any fibroid tales?

  2. Same here
was diagnosed with first pregnancy .four small ones. It didn't bother me cos it wasn't inside the womb. One was visible on the outside though as a small bump.
By second pregnancy I didnt even bother checking if they were there.

  3. I always enjoy your post Mama Tee.

My aunts baby when she was still inside was a struggle cos she had serous fibroid issues. Docs advised her to evacuate and so many other things to get rid of the baby saying her life was in danger. Her sisters begged, everybody talked but she refused, kept confessing the word to her baby and her life. During labour docs were even scared for her life. The drama plenty but to God be the glory baby faith was born. They named her faith cos everyone lost hope but her faith was all she had. Today that baby is her only child. No one entered again.
We thank God for divine health.

  6. Ooo God. I don't want it biko. This pregnancy is somehow. No morning fever, no vomiting, no implantation bleeding. I only had weakness the first month but is all gone now. Some times I have headach, i could not eat what I cook last month but this month I am going back to the kitchen. The entire restaurant in my street know me n my husband. One even ask me to stop figthen my husband and start cooking for him. That is not good for me to punish him by not cooking bc of misunderstanding. I said ok n took a walk. Monitoring spirits everywhere. Hope the fact I had no symtoms early does not mean I have the fibroid. I felt baby move the other day. Is it too early to feel her. I am not yet 4 month.

    1. At all, symptoms have nothing to do with fibroid, enjoy your pregnancy. Not everyone has fibroid.

    2. You have nothing to worry about dear. You don't have fibroid, fibroid causes serious problems during pregnancy.
Not everyone have those normal pregnancy symptoms. I didn't have pregnancy symptoms like vomiting, spitting saliva, tiredness or morning fever. I only had headaches which disappeared after I chopped my hair off. I was on low cut from 5months till delivery, pouring water on my head everyday relieved me of the headaches. Rock your pregnancy but try and be eating well for the sake of your baby. Eat plenty fruits and vegetables.

  8. Hmmm, I tried to get pregnant to no avail not until I had surgery to remove the fibroids(1 big & 5 small) and I took in 3 months after. I will soon start trying for a second child by Gods grace. Life of a woman!!
A lot of ladies esp.in their late 20s to 30s have fibroids. Some are even unaware.

  9. Single ladies above 25, please make mistletoe guava tea your friend. Those who already have fibroids should embrace soursop leaves tea. Not suitable for pregnant women though. Google the uses and dosage please. Prevention is better and cheaper than cure anyday.

  14. I think one major cause of the sudden rise is our eating. More women do more of junks and sugary food. Just as CEO Empress stated, a change in diet will help. Reduce red meat and excessive starchy foods. Opt for more veggies and fruits. Eat more bitter foods. Black soup made with utazi and scent leaf is a good detoxifier.

  15. I am 27 years old, was diagnosed early this year with fibroid(insignificant size as i was told), ovarian cyst and hepatic cyst. All in one person in my single status. At first i thought it was kidney stones due to pains i always experience by the sides of my stomach. Right now, na God hand i dey.

  16. Hmmmm, I never knew I had fibroids until I conceived and started having pains. I did not have any morning sickness or the usual irritation that pregnant women have.
This pain is out of this world, I could not sleep, walk, eat or do anything. The only thing I could eat was fruit - (Kai, my skin was glowing seriously then, people always commented on my glowing skin even doctors)
According to doctors, the fibroids were growing bigger because of the pregnancy. It feeds on the same nutrients as a growing foetus does. Like Mama Tee explained, they were struggling for space with the foetus.
In my case, the fibroids were multiple big and so the pain started at 2 months. You can imagine how big the fibroids were for them to start fighting for space with the baby at two months.
The pain was extremely unbearable. Doctors couldn’t give pain relievers so much because the foetus was in it’s formative stage. The best they could do was paracetamol. The pain no be for this world abeg. It got to a stage, I was given tramadol reluctantly to ease the pain.
I lost the pregnancy at 4 months due to this and until then, I knew no peace in my body. I have gone ahead to have a Myomectomy as advised by the doctors and I know that God will perfect conception and bringing to birth.
Mama Tee, na ibeji I want oo, so we can be twinning ……smiling

    5. Its well dear.

When a woman is pregnant, she's filled with hormones and Fibroid strives very well in hormones especially if there's an hormonal imbalance.

God will give you double for your loss.

  17. Every young girl(25-27) should please go for ultrasound once a year.
Most young girl/women have it without even knowing.

Like I said earlier in my earlier posts about fibroid, hormones are the main cause of fibroids, also genetics (hereditary) and dietary influences.

Most meat especially red meat are already filled with hormones.

It's better to discover it earlier and nip it in the bud.

Dietary changes helps a whole lot.

Instead of taking lots of analgesics all the time, thereby overloading your system, make hot lemon water your friend. It numbs the pelvic pain of the FIBROID.

The first step is DETOXIFICATION of the body.

I will write more on management of fibroid in tomorrows SPONTANEOUS POST.
