Nigeria-born New Zealander Israel Adesanya, “The Last Stylebender, 28, is one of the UFC’s hottest prospect.

He’ll be headlining “The Ultimate Fighter Finale” on Friday. The event is the free-TV appetizer before Saturday night’s UFC 226.


Adesanya is taking a huge step up in terms of quality of opponent. Hawaiian Brad Tavares is the No. 8-ranked middleweight in the UFC, is on a four-fight win streak and is exactly a year ahead of Adesanya in terms of his UFC journey.

The challenge Adesanya is facing in Tavares is far greater than anything the UFC has put before its other hyped up-and-comers. The UFC is essentially betting that Adesanya doesn’t need any more seasoning. They think he’s ready for the big time.

The pair aren’t directly fighting each other this week. But they are competing against one another for the fight world’s attention.
