  1. I have lived in the North. No matter how Muslim you are or how many times you go to mosque to pray, if you do not speak Hausa, you are not a Muslim!
That child is displaying what she say in her neighborhood; kids do not pretend.
My room mate who is a southern muslim fled during one of the "butchering sessions" in the north. His fellow "muslims" were looking for his head to cut off.

    3. Anonoymous 02:05 and hajiya, stop the pretense. It is true, the discrimination of the Hausa/Fulani against other tribal muslims is an open secret. I have lived in Kabuga, Kano and Kawo, kaduna long enough to know, so stop the cover up abeg.

    1. And you just had to conclude that the church was culpable for the child's utterances. Hmmm

  3. Really how many Hausa people can speak anything else apart from Hausa?
A place where they teach high school students English in Hausa, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, biology in Hausa and they are expected to write Waec exams in English. Of course, their typical result is 9999 . . . with two A -in IRS and Hausa.
Ask anybody who did nysc in the north and taught in a secondary school.

    2. I can relate cos schooled in the North. One morning while I was walking to school, I passed through govt primary school and it was their morning assembly period. From a distance I could hear the headmaster communicating to them in hausa but as we (some other students were walking with me) approached closer, he changed language to English. See how we were laughing. I was like, he better continue speaking the hausa cos I know those kids were lost at that point. Most of those kids in the North especially the ones from poor background do not understand and speak English at all.

    Very sad!
Nigerians are some of the most bigoted and intolerant people that I've come across and it's a top to bottom thing.

    1. Even on this blog it is evident.
Even the so called ones that claim enlightened and feel they know all still make tribalistic comments.
What exactly are you teaching your kids at home. Iv heard alot of misconceptions about various tribes and I'm smart enough to know it's actually the individual and his/her values that matters.
I grew up not seeing tribe and I was able to mix up,form friendships, date and even marry those from other cultures.
This is 2018 we ought to have evolved beyond this.

Shantelle, the poster is not Christian who is drawing attention to silly stereotypes that has kept a lot of us very unenlightened which unfortunately is being transferred to children in their innocence.

  6. In my old apartment some Jews kept dropping off a Hebrew magazine to my unit. I told them to stop dropping off the magazine because I was not Jewish and couldn't read it anyway. They never dropped off the magazine again. I don't see anything wrong in telling someone not to converse with you in a language you do not understand. If speaking hausa is intricately tied to being a Muslim then what the child said was not wrong, children do not have the filter that adults do, nor do they have a conscience yet, the things they say will come off sounding rude, but that is because they do not have the life experience yet r conscience to soften it and not make it sound so blunt.

  7. But it's okay to assume every neighbor is Hausa or understands Hausa abi? He is no different from his neighbor yet he Sees no fault in his daughter's actions. Na their way be that anyways. Always quick to cry wolf.

The man is an Hausa Christian who has issues with the assumption that if you are Hausa you are a Muslim.
He feels the Church is contributing to making bigots out of its adherents because of their skewed teachings.

He mentioned the Church because that is his constituency and that is where he believes he can start his correction so as to be an example for other faiths.
