US Activist Blasts Chimamanda And Says She Should Return to Her Country And Speak On Genital Mutilation

A United State spokesperson on Gun ownership and the second amendment, Dana Loesch, has hit out at Nigerian author and prominent feminist, Chimamanda Adichie and told her to “return to her own country and worry about genital mutilation”

This is in response to Adichie’s appearance on the Today show where she spoke out against what people deem to be acts of chivalry which she explained was subtle sexism.

According to Chimamanda; “I think gestures like holding the door shouldn’t be gender-based,”

“I’m quite happy for people to hold the door for me. But I hope they’re not doing it because of this sort of idea of chivalry.

“Because chivalry is really about the idea that women are somehow weak and need protecting. But we know that really, there are many women who are stronger than many men.”

Loesch, however, opined that Adichie did not understand the concept of chivalry and said she should focus more on the ills in her nations such as genital mutilation.

“I don’t think she understands quite the concept of chivalry, which was a code of conduct for gentlemen,” Loesch said.

“With all due respect to Adichie — and I’m familiar with her — I think it’s a luxury of third-way feminism to complain about holding doors open for people where her country, Nigeria, it ranks top in the world for female genital mutilation, which I think if far more of a disservice to women and far more suppressive than someone courteously opening the door for someone else.”

No she doesn't lack comprehension!!! Chimamanda said Chivalry emanated from an ideology that women are weaker and hence care must be taken when carrying out acts that are chivalrous and that those chivalrous acts should be done by everyone. On the other hand this activist is saying that chivalry was a code of conduct for gentlemen. Men who wanted to be fair to women seeing that women were at a disadvantage at that time. The activist is saying that chivalry came from a point of equity, men knew that they had the upper hand in most things at that time and they aimed to elevate women by being chivalrous. They DID NOT think women were weaker just like white people do not think blacks are less but white have what is called affirmative action to elevate blacks and promote equity. In the next 50 to 60 years if some black persons says that the idea of affirmative action comes from the fact that blacks are daft and lesser than whites, a lot of people would not find it funny. This activist is saying Chimamanda does not understand the roots of Chivalry and Chimamanda is saying that the history is due to men perceiving women as weak. They are both opinions and kind of sort of have a point but just because somebody does not agree with your point of view does not mean THEY LACK COMPREHENSION! It takes a smart person to analyze both positions.

  14. I think of recent, in a bid to be heard by all means, chimamanda started sounding a bit off with her idea of feminism. She started giving out the wrong signals. For me, you become a real feminist when you go 50-50 with the man. It's as simple as that. No right thinking man will look down on a woman who can fully stand on her own. What is opening the door for a man?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But that was exactly her point. We should all feel free to open the door for whomever. It's not about feminism. It's about doing the right thing. Let's be real. Don't some men use chivalry to deceive women? In Nigeria, do we even have chilvary? The American woman is even using outdated information for her argument. She could have made a point without a personal attack.

  17. But did Chimamanda specifically tone her comment to attack any particular country or culture? She made a general statement which you are free to disagree with, why bring her homeland into the matter? Attack the topic not the person or their culture. When you know you are of lower intellectual capacity and cannot properly craft a suitable rebuttal then you stoop low to attack the person and where they come from. It's not as though American women's lives are a bed of roses, American girls may not be exposed to genital mutilation, but they are being sexually abused in record numbers. What about the #metoo movement, you have grown ass women who can't even defend themselves and sleeping with men to get a part in a movie, and being spoken to anyhow with no power to stop it. American woman and girls have their own problems, so don't come acting like your country is the land of milk and honey for women, it is not!

Lots of people are beginning to get tired of Chimamanda and her talks. Same way people are getting tired of Reno Omokri. I’m saying this because most people want to make a point so hard that they end up sounding stupid when give stupid reasons because they want people to see things from their angle. Whenever people have too many words in their mouths then you realize they really don’t know it all. Though in their minds they feel like they’re on point.

I'm not a feminist neither do I champion the course but I know what Chim is trying to portray. It's quite unfortunate most of us especially the ladies don't support her view. Why I love her own form of feminism is because she is not siding the women alone, she believes on pure equality, look at yesterday's chronicle poster, these are what Amanda are championing against.

    6. she did not attack her country and she Loesch was also pointing out her own opinion. she only brought Chimamanda's attention to what is more relevant, what she should be more concerned with than who should and should not open doors. its obvious she is not using her very loud voice properly.

    7. Anon 10:56 and mhiz A, the joy I felt reading your comments is overwhelming. I am happy that there are still sensible persons out there who understand the style of the weak and unlearned. They tend to attack your personality instead of the issue at hand. A lot of BVs in sdk blog does that so I am not surprised at their comments.

The so called human rights activist in USA is only jealous that a foreigner is heard and making more impacts than she in her own country,so she felt hitting below the belt will save her face. But you see, nothing stops the USA right activists from coming to Nigeria and doing same here.
The sky is too big, don't push others down so that you can stand, because no one can be truly successful by pushing others down to stand.

    8. Anon 10.56 bles you. Loesh is not a United States activist. She's the spokesperson for the national rifle association. The same one accused of causing deaths of many by standing against gun control. And here she is saying naija has more problems than the u.s. And we are celebrating her. At least in naija, children don't go to school and wonder if they'll come home alive.

    9. Gbam! It's an America n tactic. Attack the person, not the issue. Chimamanda hit a nerve when she said open the door for everyone. These people saying affirmative action is for equity should go and read the document again. In a country where people have the same chances, why would you need to force diversity and acceptance?

      Delete

    2. Even u are missing it if u focus on Loesch's veiled insult and refuse to acknowledge the aspect of her comment that is true. I doubt anybody imagines that her comment is entirely innocent but when u consider the issues in their totality, raising dust over something as trivial as simple acts of chivalry (in a world in dire need of positive values) really makes no sense when there are much more critical issues to bring to the fore and address. More so, when it is already common knowledge that able bodied females would be expected to assist the physically challenged or weaker members of society (male or female) should the need arise. The world doesn't need Chimamanda to tell them that. So let's not always go up in arms crying 'insult' and 'shade' with every comment made, if at the end of the day it will only end up drowning the more important issues. It comes across as being needlessly sensitive and even smacks of a complex. Final verdict - both women have issues to ponder in the matter.

That is the reason why this woman has hit it back all the way home regardless of the fact that the Amanda girl did not specify any tribe or country. Lately she has been talking too much on things and this act of chivalry she mentions, I don’t think it’s seen as an act of weakness of women. It’s more or less and informal act of old. Well na she get her mouth. She has not responded to the babe that is inviting her to a round table to discuss egalitarianism but I trust her to come out respond to this cos na one of ‘theirs’ that wrote this. Na dem sabi jare. 3. 16:19 '...tone it down' for what?

A lifetime of 'toning it down' has brought you what exactly?
Apart from nauseous abject mediocrity?? You, like your fellow onions, are simply intimidated by Adichie.
Nigerians are always intimidated by strong, opinionated, ballsy women.
So they resort to abuse, name calling or outright lies. It's the sum total of their intellect. If she was single, I can only imagine the manner of insults she would have received by now. 'Tone it down' so outstanding people taking the world by storm can shrink into inconsequential spaces you also occupy. You think that everyone wants to live a life of absolute nothingness like you lot? Some people are too charismatic to sit by thumb in mouth. Please step aside and watch from the sidelines while they impact the world. Don't tell anyone to tone anything down. People know Adichie, who are you? See how you are referring to white people in 'worshipful' tones as if they are God. What baffles me is Nigerians attempting to have any intellectual discourse on what Adichie says. Nigerians who struggle with understanding multiple words and even cartoons? Loll. You lot can't even interpret silence, is it someone's words you want to understand?
      How??
Do yourselves a favour and stick to your tobu tobu jokes and suwe music because, apparently, even basic is beyond you lot.

*I'm not Adichie. Because there's bound to be one or more dunces crawling by after this comment from wherever greeting 'Welcome Chimamanda.'
