Saturday In House Gists - Keeping The Home And Its Environs Child Friendly...

When I had my first Bambino,it dawned on me that i had to re-do the house after he slipped and hit his head on the glass table.....I WAS SHOCKED that my home posed a danger to my child.....

The next thing pulled down was shelves, the high ones you see in movies....he pulled it down and when i heard the crash,i was so shocked...the next was he began opening shelves with knives and forks and throwing them........the shelf had to go,I took everything that was a risk out and made my home Child friendly...the cupboards were secured automatic locks....Doors were locked, keys hidden

In my confusion and frustrations my phone went on permanent silent and 13 years later,i still don't know how to take my phone off silent........

Even the pets you keep at home can pose a risk to the child's life...
Be careful of everything......

What else? Please share you safety tips with us......

  3. When my kids come for holiday the kitchen is always locked. I ensure no sharp object is left in their rooms, their toys too are child friendly, Isabella is like a boy she is too energetic, that one can ask questions for Africa. Everything she sees or touch she must ask questions about it and if left unanswered then Oyo is my case. So I take time to explain to her what it is in a way that her tiny brain can understand. And ooooh we use plastic cutleries plates and cups.

  5. 1: If your floor is tiled, avoid water pouring on it, make sure the floor is always dry.
2:Keep insecticides out of children's reach.
3:Rat poison should be done at night, and remove very early in the morning, and keep out of their reach as well.

    4. @lady bird, rat gum doesn't kill big Rats I've tried that numerous times it didn't work until I applied rat poison. Besides it is kept at a hidden place. which kids wanders at midnight? If you must apply it, you have to be conscious of the kids, and remove it very early. I still stand on my ground. If rat gum works for you, fine, go ahead with it, and if you can't be careful with the Rat poison, don't even buy it. Period!

I always keep any sharp object away from kids and even my older kid is almost eleven, I'm still scared of leaving her alone in the kitchen to cook indomie because of gas explosion.

  11. Our little princess is a case. Even if you hide anything, she must see it and touch. We don shout tire for the wires she will rush and touch.

She knows she is wrong but she will still dare you. A year and 2 months.

Anyway the daddy will come and carry her so that we can rest small. Her holidays don end for my house

  14. Very interesting post, my kids love the bathroom..now I make sure I lock the doors all the time. They like playing with the buttons of the stove, so the kitchen door is always locked as well. Ohh they love electric plugs too...we've shifted things so that we candon't hide them... eish, and the big guy likes jumping and looking over the window...

  15. I always close my kitchen cupboards with locks cos that's where I store pots and cleaning detergents and my kids used to open the cupboards and play with the pots when they were crawling. Also I have added extra locks a little bitter higher than the normal door knob cos my 2 year old is very happy at opening the door when the bell rings even if I am upstairs despite the fact that i have told her not to. I don't keep any glass table or chair. I also keep sharp objects especially the kitchen knives far up the kitchen counter so that their hands cannot grab them.

  16. Thanks Stella for the post. Please let's keep out doors on lock. Children love welcoming pipo that show them love n they have no idea a car can kill. I rem one who wanted to welcome a neighbour n the man never knew she was at the back of the car. He crushed her. Her mom was still watching tv. It was so sad. You that keep dogs and pigs. Some dogs eat flesh n pigs too. When i was in school a pig ate her trainer New born baby. That was when I knew pigs can eat babies. I am sure you all heard the news of a dog who ate a baby in from if a mall in Nigeria inside a car. Your pet shud be far from your child. Those in communities where phyton are not killed. I don't even want to know how you will protect that child from the snake. Igbos know we don't kill eke (snakes )in some communities. Keep your well far from your child or raise it high enough above the height of a child. This goes also to people with fish ponds and swimming pool. Don't let your child eat by himself when you use bonny fish to cook. Feed him n stop being lazy. Keep your deep freezers on lock biko. Hypo n sanitizer shud be Kept away from them My sister daugther finish a whole cap of panadol n was drunk (overdose ) she taught is candy. Keep drugs lock up. What again ? YOU that smoke n drink. Dont do this ard this little ones pls. They tend to copy all we do. I met my niece drinking from the Wc. The way i scream eeh.she had a cup. 2 years then.

Dressing table should be way above their reach.

    Knives should be properly kept.

Say no to naked wire in the house.

Make sure all containers are covered.

Drugs should be kept away from them.

Check gas cylinders always. They can play with it and put it on mistakenly.
