Army Spokesman, Major Adam Umar said three of the arrests were linked to killings in the Barikin Ladi area, while the other 14 were arrested in connection with the deaths of travellers in the south of the state capital, Jos.
He Said, “We all know that some days back, some villages in Barikin Ladi were attacked and these three suspects were arrested in connection with that. As our men were repelling the attacks in those areas, we arrested these three suspects with four rifles, three locally made guns and one AK47."
The clashes are rooted in tensions over access to land between the pastoral herders and sedentary farmers but have also generated sectarian friction between Muslims and Christians. Police and army reinforcements have been sent to Plateau to improve security, while a dusk-to-dawn curfew remained in place in areas of the state to restore calm.

They should just kill them, no need to spare them. They are heartless and wicked.
ReplyDeleteDon't arrest them today and release them tomorrow oh. As long as they are the real culprits, deal with them mercilessly

Herdsmen aren't responsible for the killing of the over 100 people afterall. It blew into crisis with Christians and Muslims killing each other and this sorta crises is agelong in Jos.
At the end of the day, Fulanis have casualties while farmers and other tribes too. Arresting the Fulani herders is justice for the people of that community. But when does the Fulani man ever get justice? He always ends up at the loosing end and treated like trash like they aren't Nigerians. Remember in this same Barikin Ladi lots of Fulani herders have been killed there in the past, and in this crises with hundreds of their cows slaughtered too. Who gets justice for the Fulani man? And amidst all this, the president is always called upon to kill them the more and send them parkin from Nigeria since they are "his people".
What l am also wondering is, what's Buhari's fault in all of this? All the ethnic and religious bigots who have been writing all sorta trash on social media since the clash, where was it stated that Buhari took machine guns there to spray the people of the community?
Until you all start seeing this as a Nigerian problem and not Fulani or northern issue, then we've got a long way to go
Why can't the fulani herder build a ranch for his cows instead of grazing people's farmland and damaging their crops?
DeleteBuhari's number one job is the protection of lives and property of all Nigerians. The buck stops on him. He hired the security chiefs and therefore is solely responsible for any security failure.
Common sense is not so common after all. I encourage to get some sense.
Nice one
ReplyDeleteThe military unfortunately have overstretched but they are indeed working
ReplyDeleteThey are not overstretched. You have battalions in the Southeast mounting road blocks, harassing and extorting innocent people for no justifiable reason. Mind you, southeast is the most peaceful region in the country. Why are those soldiers in the Southeast and not in Plateau, Benue and all the trouble spots?
DeleteMay God grant comfort and peace to all the families who lost loved ones and may we find a lasting solution to these clashes in Nigeria
ReplyDeleteHope they are not innocent people?
