DeleteI have a very violent brother too that has angry outburst. Couple of years ago before I got married we were all seated down just gisting and we were arguing about football . The thing got heated and he broke a bottle and wanted to stab me. Even I was ready to fight back but people held him. He entered my room and trashed it. I didn't speak to him for atleast 3months,even when he greets I wont answer. He doesn't respect anyone talks to my mum anyhow. This has been his way since we were kids. Uncountrollable anger. He dropped out of university,drinks and smokes weed.Though he is doing well in business now.

Does he over-spoil you (this is also a way of buying a woman, ask rich men how they dated their wives...they did not and do not lavish a woman with things she wants anyhow).
Does he respect you? (A lot of our women do not know what it means for a man to respect them so this part is lost on a lot of women). Respect your privacy, your place as a woman, your rights as an adult, your work, choices, passion and family?
Unfortunately, a man will pay bills and attend church. Shout a few God bless you here and there and to a woman, he is a good God fearing man.

DeleteSunday was father's day in my church. I asked a sister why her husband wasn't in church. Her reaction made me take her aside for us to talk. So she has a good job and takes up most of the financial responsibilities in the house. Her husband wants to buy a new car and needed her to give him 500k. When she refused, hell broke loose. He beat her up, removed all her clothes in the presence of the house help. In 2months she has been beat up twice! I don't even want to go into the psychological abuse of posting another woman's picture on his FB page, calling her the best woman in his life. Long story short she has been codedly informed that unless she brings 500k no peace.

The earlier the better, One asked asme question in my church on sunday, that is it ok for a lady to finance the relationship while the guy does nothing and also he earns 30 and wants to buy a phone of 150k and expects her to finance the project as well? And they are still dating o, after she will say she didnt know he will get like this. The woman u talked about up there saw it coming. Ladies if a man doesnt have anything his doing or earns less than you biko FLEE from him. That's how entitlement mentality starts.

My Husband beat me up once and I even tried to defend myself that day. I have never seen him the same way after that. I'm seriously considering a divorce.

ReplyDeleteThe reason why u nigerians get married or remain in marriage is due to very bad factors for example, societal pressure, stigmatization on single women & single mothers & shaming of unmarried women, poverty, family pressure,desperation etc.
Until the communities & government intervenes by removing those factors or at least promoting the status & rights of the nigerian girl child to become legitimate & bonafide members of society instead of categorized as 2nd class citizens who require to have a man (father, brother, husband etc) in their life for validations.
More nigeria girls & women will be dying unfortunately like this at hands of a man supposed to "protect or love" them.
Anger is very bad. Men should learn to control their temperament and government should establish school of anger management so both men and women can attend.

Once a man starts hitting you, he can't stop. People should stop believing that marriage will change a wife beater or a husband beater. It's only God that can change someone. My uncle was constantly beaten by his wife, not only women get beaten. Domestic violence is both ways. My cousin was raised never to lay his hands on any woman. His wife took advantage of the fact that he can never hit her so , she will slap him, bite him, scratch him and do all sorts of things to him. When he could no longer take it, he filed for a divorce.
ReplyDeleteI was dating a really nice guy back then and I was about taking him home to show my parents that he would be my husband. But the previous night, we had an argument and he tried to hit me. Well, I stopped him and gave him a stern warning never to try that ever in his life. Lest I forget, my dad gave us the girls SELF DEFENCE lessons. He taught us how to defend ourselves. I told my boyfriend that I couldn't continue with the relationship and he promised that he was never going to hit me. My dear, I left him and moved on while he later on got married to someone else. Yours truly, few months into his marriage, he beat the hell out of his wife and unfortunately she died.
When we see these signs, we shouldn't wave it aside just because we want to be called MRS SOMEBODY. Marriage isn't supposed to be BONDAGE, It is supposed to be enjoyed.
