Iya Ibeji Series - Keto Experience

That Keto Brouhaha....




Sometime last year we no hear word for keto matter, and because I was seeing real results on others, I decided to give it a try. 

It was a great struggle, not only were the meals expensive but they were tasteless. What used to amaze me is how people on the WhatsApp group will  ''yummy, Yummy'' on top garden egg swallow? 
 Each time i tried to keto I was only able to do it for like 2 days before falling back.

But then keto was giving people amazing results, on their Whatsapp group you will see people posting these amazing photos of transformation in 2 weeks or less. 

I really wanted to lose weight, so i joined a gym but people were leaving the gym to keto. So I began to speak to myself, ''iya beji you can do this, Just 2 weeks, what's 2 weeks you have done dry fasting 5 days before'' Na so I encourage myself and got serious, I didn't get the 2 weeks result (because I did partial keto) but I started losing weight. 

My clothes started needing amendments .

After a while I was slim for all to see, people started asking questions. I became like a consultant of some sort, I felt good and my shakara level increased, I mean I could wear a shirt and tuck in.

Gradually I became a little relaxed and the fat came back. And I was in no hurry to deal with it because I felt like I had known the secret and I can lose weight whenever I put my mind to it. 

I know how to lose weight, I know how to lose weight na so I still fat till today.

When I was acting as a consultant my cousin wanted me to help her. I told her what she needed to add and remove from her diet. And she was quiet for a long time, then she started talking.

COUSIN: This life is a mystery, when I was young I craved chocolate and stuff but we were to poor for me to have them.
Now i can afford them I'm told its not good for my health and it will make me fat. 

My mum can't eat properly because she is diabetic, no rice no Eba no egusi and the likes. Now me that I'm not sick I should not eat rice, Eba etc. That's not right, I can't be eating like a diabetic patient.

Then after going on for a while she became calm.

COUSIN : OK I'll do all you say, I will try. I will stop swallow and the likes but please don't tell me to stop eating rice. Instead Kuku kill me.
Na fat I fat I didn't kill anybody.

She was begging me like I invented keto, so she started too and saw result but hen she gave up like me.

What's your Keto experience? Were you able to do it fully or partially?
Did you get any result? Are you still ketoing or you have given up like me? or you never tried it?

*It just occurred to me after reading this that i have not heard anything about Keto again since this year!!!..Ah ah what could have happened?

      Una doo. If you're looking at losing weight, find weight bells and skipping rope. Nothing will remain on your body.

    I can't do keto. It sounds so unhealthy . I've always known ketones to be unhealthy.
    I cut down my portions, reduce fats and carbs plus cardio: bam!!! New me

My mum is a nutritionist so as soon as I told her about keto she opposed it, and told me to start controlling my potions, she said every type of food is important for the body, but I should take in smaller potions, take a small spoon of rice with plenty veggies and meat on your plate. Even fats and oil has its use

  6. Keto is a faster way of losing weight but it takes the grace of God to maintain it for one year or more. I mean bodi nor be b firewood na. Is it easy to turn down everything sweet?
    Reduced portions takes longer to see results but the effects are long lasting. Eat d portions u will feed ur toddler then tank up with water. You get to eat ur favourite. You lose weight. You are not sad or moody coa you cant eat some foods. So its win win on every side.
    Add exercise if u can make d time.

Keto was the National Anthem last year and my neigbor turned her house to keto camp,zero carb join, we had to wrestle the growing children from keto before she stunts their growth, very stubborn babe, after giving her husband keto diet, the man would go to fast food joint and deck up, babe was slimming while her DH was getting fatter then suddenly she started getting syncope, vertigo, disorientation, hospital visits started and boom the fat came back with a vengeance. She is still battling the fainting spells. We need balanced diet in its right proportion.

    2. Electrolyte imbalance!!

      That’s one thing all those groups never told them about!! Electrolytes! Because you’ll be peeing a lot, you’ll be losing electrolytes and will need to replace them! Sodium, potassium and magnesium!

  9. I actually did Keto last year and got good Result a Month into it.
    Mine was the Full but Lazy Ketoing.Only green Tea in d mornings, Sliced Cucumbers, Ginger,mint leaves infused water/ only soups as dinner( luckily I never liked swallow.
    Almonds/ Coconuts as Snacks.
    It wasn't easy though but its bn an experience.
    From a Size 16 to a Size 12.
    Recently sha,I cheat in between and I end up feeling Guilty!!!!
    My Period has stopped bn painful/ I look GOOD for a Mother of 4.
    BUT the downlow of Keto fo me is knees /joint pain,I am on Calcium intake.
    I will b 40years by January, I will stop Ketoing ,will just be on Portion Control.
    This is my KETO Experience.

      And if you’re dieting or exercising even more so
      With Keto, it is essential to replace electrolytes. Salt your food more, take magnesium and potassium supplement and your regular women supplement..

Keto is nt fr me,i bought all wt I need fr d 2wks plan,i was nt able to do it fr a day,anytime I decide to do it,is wen am always hungry,d best is to control d portion of our food intake,eat light food at night and fruit is also gud,all d best to those still ketoing,their result always motivate me bt I can't do it.

  14. I did keto for 2months and lost 9kg it was a terrible experience. Having constant headache, I only enjoyed the chicken and veg soup. I got tired of eggs. The taste of coconut oil in eggs and cabbage jollof was terrible.
    I was eating cabbage like a goat. got tired of it.
    Someone said cucumber porridge is yummy I tried it and it was yuck
    How about cabbage moimoi,cabbage swallow ,coconut swallow?
    I couldn't continue anymore. It was expensive and the food tasteless.
    I stopped and gained back the weight

    1. Nigerians just like to overdo things!! What causes the Keto effect is the absence of high carbs not all those things they were doing. Just sticking to my normal soups without swallow, vegetable and chicken, fish or meat. Very simple. I stopped snacking. It is so so effective till now

  15. I have been on keto since Jan 2017. I find it difficult keeping to the diet when I travel on holidays because people don't understand it yet, so I have to eat what everyone is eating with wisdom. I can say that 80percent of the time, my diet is keto. The remaining 20percent is for cheating. It keeps me sane.
    Keto has taught me to understand food, so even the times I am off the diet, I still manage to maintain weight. If you are going of the keto diet, 1)Exercise should be incorporated into your regimen, if not you would add the weight back.
    2)Practice portion control and also monitor your fat intake. Reason is that in keto, you lose weight easily without exercising (not that it is not possible with other diet, but keto makes it faster)
    3)Keto is a high healthy fat diet, if you must go off the diet, please watch your fat intake. Cook your meals with less fat and oil, eat vegetables and whole foods. Avoid processed foods and food and drinks high in sugar.
    4) Always check your weight monthly. It is easier to lose 5kg than when the kgs begin to climb.
    Lastly keto is not for everyone. I have been able to come back to keto because it works best for me. Weight loss, weight management, exercise is not a quick fix. It is a life marathon, no matter the diet.

    I eat and eat all sorts so I can even gain more weight, for where? I'm still a sisi pelembe after 3kids
    Small girls in the area will be looking at me like I'm their agemate. Meanwhile when they see some other women of my age who are on the big side, they even bend their knees while greeting those ones.

Hmmm everthing get time.lst yr was ketos time.every tom,dick & harry dey keto.even those wey dey chop beatings as good go tell u say na keto,babes wey dey suffer heartbreak & u see them emaciated go still tell u say na keto.even the ones wey dey do 0:1:0 as per buhari hardship go still tell u say na keto make them be like natty for new masquarade.Kai keto suffer lst ur.But my 2 friends that really ketod lost weight thou they don stop like u mama ibeji.

  19. Na wa, I thought 'Nigerian men love meat', they don't like 'bones' then who are all these going on diet??? No type of diet I've not heard in Nigeria, Cambridge, Keto, Atkins, Weightwatchers etc Na wetin happen na, una meat don block person throat?   20. I am still Ketoing though on maintenance. It has worked for me it wasn't easy but I was determined. 8 years ago I was already a size 22 now am 14 and working on keeping it so.
    All those that say it's expensive just look for local options and you will be fine.
    I am one of those who do not agree you don't need to exercise so I work out 3 to 4 times a week for one hour. I do jumping ropes 1000, jogging. It is a lifestyle for me now. I am 52 and I look good. I am actually happy I can feel confident in my skin

  21. People still dey keto .me I no dey do Leto, I only eat little portions @ a time but eat complete meals. Until I have kids I will know whether keto or any thing plan really works to lose belly fat

  23. I was on Keto for one year, with good results. And i am still maintaining my size 2 years running now. I cannot even eat as much as i used to before Keto, I will not be comfortable throughout. I lost 10kg all together. No regrets. i did not take all those Keto meals. I just drew out my own meal plans and they suite me.
