Iya Ibeji Series -High Cost Of Foodstuff

I grew up in a very large family, they used to call our house barracks.

I have always liked people around me though I decided not to born plenty.

During the Easter break, my house was full of people. I had 3 teenagers and one adult.

I don't cook lunch in my house. Either we eat leftover from breakfast or we sha combine something to eat. I don't settled down to cook a proper meal.

As if somebody was somewhere doing me ntoor, the prices of food stuff just sky rocketed.

Yam is costly, let's not talk about tomatoes, egusi nko?

So when these kids will say aunty what are we eating for lunch my heart will somersault.

They were coming from a home where they eat lunch and I won't have them starve in my house so I started cooking lunch.

When it was time for them to go I was relieved, not like i didn't enjoy their company but it was digging deep into my purse.

The day they left my children cried and it reminded me of what I used to do to my mom.

While in school during short vacation some friends will follow me home and my mum will be complaining. I will be like mumsie we are already 13 in this house how will one more mouth affect anything.

My brothers will bring their friends too some times we were over 16 in the house and we used to say the more the merrier.

When my mom would complaincomplained we will see her as a kill joy. How can she be complaining when the house is bubbling like this.

Now I understand, so when my guests left I called mumsie to hail her, I didn't tell her the reason for the hailing.

I ended the conversation with

IYA BEJI: mumsie I raise Beyonce hands 🙌 for you.

MUSMSIE: Who be Beyonce?

IYA BEJI: Na one woman wey be wan try like you but she no reach.

I come from a family were we don't say I love you to each other instead we hail. I just kept on hailing mumsie. Our Parents tried abeg!

  1. I don't know how to stay around plenty people, like I love being alone, when Hubby's sister wanted to bring her 3boys for holiday with my own son, I knew I will soon have hypertension if care isn't taken and i travelled to my mum's place jeje before some boys will use wahala and kill me, came back later. It isn't easy having a full house ooo, expenses upon expenses.

    1. Same here, I hate crowded house. Maybe it's because I grew up with only my mom and 2 brothers (my father died quite early) so it's just the four of us. Tomatoes is extremely expensive, ofe akwu, fried rice and sauce to take over

    2. This is so me, I hate anything crowd it gives me headache.
Just me and my kids. Same reason I don't allow my kids visit anyone except my mother in-law so they won't give anyone stress. I just love my space

    4. This is me, I love my space so much, sometimes I don't even pick up calls because I just want to be alone doing my thing. I know I'm socially awkward and my family has accepted me like that.

  2. Just like my family while growing up. I am the only girl and my four brothers will bring friends. We can be almost fourteen in the house that my mum will feed, this happen every good day. Sometimes mumsy bags about it but she will still do it. Now, if I have only one visitor to feed extra, I will start grumbling because of the financial implication it will have on me.our mothers are champions

  4. We were just 4 kids growing up before my brother was born. Our house was a mini Barack. We had students, relatives and all sorts staying withvus. We even use to joke that we need an old students association for our house. Now that I have my own home,I truly Dont like it crowded. I'm so comfortable when its just me and my husband as I feel we can always eat whatever we see but I'll have to start cooking and worrying when visitors are around. Bad behaviour but I'm trying to change. My neighbour and her 4 kids have been staying with us for a week now cos they saw a snake in their apartment which was killed immediately. It has been so much fun and has made me remember growing up.
As for foodstuffs,I'm not really an egusi person so the egusi iv had for a long time is still in my house. I use shombo, atarodo, tin tomato, and very little fresh tomato to make my stew. I just add plenty onions. Man must survive jare.

  5. I now do carrot stew though still add some fresh tomatoes.
I grew up in a family of 6, always rowdy and noisy. Though, I like my alone time, I am not averse to crowds.
My husband on the other hand, is a major crowd puller and me I like food to be at home at all times so I was spending a lot. At first, I was complaining that it's too much but now I don't send. As far as you can cater for them, no problem. I will support financially in anyway I can.
