Actor Paul Obazele Shakes Nollywood's Table In New Interview

The former President of the Association of Movie Producers in Nigeria, Paul Obazele, in a recent chat with Saturday Beats opened a can of worms about the Nigerian movie industry.

The ace actor told Saturday Beats that it was unfortunate that g#y and le#bian movie producers are the ones calling the shots in the movie scene. He stated that while he was the president of the association, he tried his best to curtail their activities.

He said, “I would not lie, we have g#y producers and le#bians in the Nigerian entertainment industry and they are the people in control. Why are we hiding it? When I was president of the Association of Movie Producers, I was against them. Why are we pretending that it does not happen? The same way it happens in Nollywood is the same way it happens in the medical field and other fields.

The truth be told, it happens across the board. If you mention the names of some producers, I would gladly tell you if they are g#y or not; they cannot do anything to me. If they bring a war to me, I would take it to their doorsteps. I do not give into gossips but I have got to a place in my life when some unsolicited pieces of information come to me.

They must tell me. I am an elder in this industry and that is why I said if you mention names, I would tell you if the person is g#y or not. It does not elude us; it happens within our rank and file. But like I always say, s#x is not the ultimate step to attaining success, it is hard work.

Probably started acting long before you were born.

  4. A person's sexuality has nothing to do with work or business.its their personal life.its only when another's personal space is encroached on via harrassment then its an issue.paul live and let's live

    1. Faythe say ya life. Who told you they are not encroaching and harrassing others. In short if you do not play ball no role for you. They are gradually turning turning Nollywood to Sodom and Gomorrah, they don't recruit based on merit again that's why they keep producing useless movies. It used to be tribalism but now another facet has joined. I miss the likes of Chico and Zeb Ejiro and the Amata brothers.

  19. Paul is saying the truth. Most of the producers in Nollywood are what he said. There was a time that I was called to be a lead actress in a movie. When I met the producer, I got the shocker of my life. She openly told me that she wants me to be her lover. I told her nicely that I don't do girls and she said that I should try it that I will love it. She said guys are boring. Throughout the time we were talking, I was very calm because I don't know what she's capable of. She's quite big in size.
To cut the long story, I didn't get the role because I refused to dance to her tune. Another popular actress got the role.
I'm not trying to bring anybody down but it is very unfair for someone who's qualified for a role to be turned down because of his sexual orientation.

  21. One of the things I hate most in the business place is when people don't mind their business. What concerns you where your colleagues put their private parts?
Seriously? Shouldn't the question be, ARE THEY GETTING THEIR JOBS DONE????
Who do you think you are condemning people for how they want to have sex? Do you not know how stupid you even sound to bring someone's sexual affiliations out and use it as a basis of condemnation where work is concerned? Is Nollywood the church of God now? Or are you lot expecting gays and lesbians to sit in one corner and beg for alms, so that you have something to insult them with again? You were not expecting them to work? Did they hand out pamphlets and ask you to join them? And the funny thing is, some of you lot actually think you are sophisticated and smart when you speak. But every time you open your mouth, you just sound myopic and stupid. Very very stupid.
