Inspector General Of Police Idris Reacts To Senate List Of Killings In Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force has described the list of killings released by the Senate as shocking, unfortunate and capable of worsening the security situation in the country.

DAILY POST report that the office of the Senate President Bukola Saraki on Friday while stating that IGP Idris was summoned strictly over the spate of killings in the country, released a list of killings in 2018.

However, the Force in a statement on Saturday by its Spokesman, ACP Jimoh Moshood insisted that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris was invited to brief Senate on Senator Dino Melaye and not because of the killings across the country.

He said: “It is mischievous and heinous to play politics with people’s lives; even if it is a soul.

“The release is speculative and not supported by any fact. Office of the Senate President does not receive or process security report from State commands.

“The recent claim by the Senate that the reason for inviting the I-G is to brief them on the recent killings in some part of the Country is an afterthought which can be seen from the headings of their invitation letters.

“The Senate’s action to cover the appearance of the I-G on National Television is against National Security, unconventional and it negates global security practice.

“From the headings of the invitation letters, it is very clear that the I-G was invited on those occasions by the Senate purposely because of Senator Dino Melaye’s criminal indictment,”

Moshood added that the Force as a law abiding entity would continue to uphold the rule of law in all its ramifications.

“The Force insists on due process of the law and once again implores the Senate not to whip-up sentiments or resort to self-help but to allow the rule of law and justice to prevail on the whole matter.”

  1. I don't like the Senate too but truth be told, police and other security agencies are not taking the present state of insecurity seriously.

  2. More than half of the killings in Benue do not make it to the media.
I wonder why the police is covering it up.
Come to Benue state university teaching hospital and see the victims by your self.
I wonder why the Benue people can't organize themselves and retaliate.

  3. A look at the List is depressing. So who come remain for Middle Belt and North East?

Only God can comfort mourning families. This country is in a big mess.

If they fail to sort the killings and the saga involving Sen Dino then absolute powers will be used. Shikena.
