ReplyDeleteSo,I went to a school on Monday morning before they even started Assembly and the Headmistress hadn't come by then,soon Assembly started and I quietly entered observation mood where I was sitting waiting for their head.What I saw made me wonder a lot. The children were indifferent to their teachers, it was just too obvious, a teacher would talk himself to stupor and the children would just behave nonchalantly,until the teacher uses anger,then a few of them would respond
To open their mouths on the assembly ground was a problem just one or two person responding, almost half of the pupils were late.
Soon the Headmistress came and the first thing she said was "we don't flog in this school" thinking she was doing a favor. I just kept wondering if she couldn't see the harm in it, the children were zero character- wise.
After leaving that place I checked out another school and I saw a huge difference, as soon as the children sighted their teachers even from the gate,the next you heard were "Good morning Ma, Good morning Sir".
They respected their teachers and any adult on sight. I saw how alert or should I say alive,they were and I noticed their teachers wasted no time in disciplining them when necessary.
I do not know but this policy of using no cane on children in some schools, is it worth it?
Secondly, what is it with Parents not taking care of their children before they come to school. In both schools I noticed how tattered most of the children were,their uniforms were rumpled and dirty,some of them looked as if they just came out from the dustbin that morning and decided to come to school that day,some looked as if they hadn't taken bath for some days not to talk of applying cream on their bodies.In the second school I went to,the teachers checked the nails and teeth of the pupils,some of them their teeth had turned yellow and some of them the odour that oozed out of their mouth was something else, as soon as the teacher brought out her cane some confessed that they forget to brush their teeth that morning. And I just kept wondering where the parents of these children were.
Parents should please take care of their children,it is your responsibility for Christ sake and to think some of these mothers are house- wives. Shm

But two new male teachers that were employed last term ehn, they will be flogging and I will be begging but those ones don't even hear cries. They will even beg u to go report to their parents.
Before the ptc, we promised the kids that they would cut grasses if their parents or rep refuse to show up. We do that usually but never come through with the punishments.
My school has the most nonchalant parents ever that despite all said and done, only a few still showed up. Normally we would have just told the students how disappointed we were and move on but this new uncle no gree oh.
See uprooting of grasses with ordinary hand for over 1hr for the secondary students and clearing the playground of grasses and sweeping of the whole compound by the children. I was happy we have someone so fearless as to see this through as my pity pity nature would have released the kids early.
Luckily for us, a parent also suggested that punishments have to be meted out to serve as a deterrent.
We are patiently waiting for the parents that will come to school to fight today as that's the only time they know they are not too busy to come to school. Mtsheeew

That’s it. The nonsense school I am doing my PPA in at the moment...na then worse pas. They have no fear at all, I have talked until my voice has cracked I have given up on them and just let them make noise. They good ones that want to learn , learn. The unserious ones don’t even care! They don’t flog them in the Sch so I can’t do otherwise. I can’t wait to pass out this month , they drive me crazy; very stubborn children. They are not even as young they should be yet very silly! I also don’t pity them when marking, some will even repeat; serves them right. School these days are something else. I don tire abeg.

hhnmmm star girl your comment reminds me of the first time i went to badagry. i was excited to go to the market and buy coconut oil as per home of coconut trees....the woman i was referred to was supposed to be the most popular seller with quality oil.....as per jjc na she gave me i think about 5 litres for 3500..me i felt since coconut was cheap in badagry the oil will be cheap...got home happy i bought coconut oil but later found out she had mixed it with groundnut oil.the colour was a bit yellow sef....i hear they use flavor to enhance the smell....now i make my own coconut oil cos that what my kids use for their skin

Good morning everyone. A lot of peeps sniff latrine. I first noticed it when I was serving. some youth Corp members were sniffing poo from latrine and some of them even smoked gum. The school where I was teaching then, some northern guys were so in on it. Then some other peeps who drive trucks will come to the school after closing hours, and they together with those guys will indulge in the kind of highness that are unimaginable. It was so shocking and quit a pityable situation. I thank God service is just one year, and I saw a lot in that one year. Please youth say no to drugs and any kind of highness generally.
