Gowon said doing so would not augur well for the nation’s fledging democracy.
Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, retd, Thursday, warned against any move to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.
Gowon said doing so would not augur well for the nation’s fledging democracy.
He said that disagreements remain vital components of a democracy, but maintained that “such disagreements could be handled differently without necessarily taking the impeachment option.”
Gowon said this against the backdrop of the submission of a report on motion for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over the purchase of $496 million Tucano Aircrafts without legislators’ approval.
He said, “It may be too early in the day to start impeaching Presidents in Nigeria. Otherwise, there is no President that will not get impeached because of these interest groups.
He called on the different groups in the North to “come together to project a common front” adding that “too many groups could send wrong signals to other parts of the country.”
“We need to come together as a people. The Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum and the Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly should come together or we would end up polarising the North,” he warned.

ReplyDeleteI don't know why I don't like Gowon, maybe cos of all his inhumane policies that saw to the death of many Biafran children during the civil war.
ReplyDeleteI just can't bring myself to not look at him with disgust.
Shut the hell up. Your people fired the first shot by killing an important northern leader called Tarawa Balewa and you expect the Hausa people to sit back and do nothing. Next time don’t start what you can’t finish, instead of themt to blame the Ojukwu that carried them into one chance death then ran away they keep blaming other tribes for their actions.
Delete@anon. Maybe you need to research more on the events that preceded the civil war therafter, you can come back to make an informed comment. Thank you.
DeleteCome Anon 9:01, better stay awayvfrom my comments. I made an observation and it's left to to make yours.
DeleteWho told u Igbos' started d war by killing Tafawa Balewa? Was that not a coup? Oohh...u think because Nzogwu led the coup that made all the coup plotters Igbo's?
What of the premier of the Western region that was murdered? Or how is it our fault that the soldiers that were meant murder Okpara and Azikiwe failed? See my dear, better go back and pick a book or two and read.
This is why history should be thought in schools, not the Kanem-Bornu empire and Non culture that is being taught.
I'm not in d mood for insults, I would have given u a dose of your medicine but that will be wasting my time on an ignorant mofo like you.
Nonsense people
Millions of which people died and milliions of who are still bitter and crying victim. Keep crying and keep playing victim no one gives a flying toss.
DeleteNo mind the attention seekers
DeleteThe events that started the war and kill Na is the Igbo killing of a Hausa leader, there was no killing before that event happened.
